“Best B&B in Newfoundland!”
Reviewed February 11, 2012

We stayed in Room 10 while crossing Newfoundland. What a nice, nice experience at the Carriage House Inn. Room 10 (king) was exceptionally clean and quiet...and well-appointed. Our host couldn't have been more accommodating about our need to do laundry. She allowed us to use two washers and extra dryers as well. It made an unpleasant on-the-road necessity that much easier (and kept us from sitting in a laundromat). Breakfast was exceptional: tasty, hot, and plenty of it (more than we could eat). Two weary travelers were well pleased with the Carriage House Inn.

Room Tip: Room 10 is at the end of the 2nd floor hall and was exceptionally quiet.

My daughter and I stayed at the Carriage House Inn on our way back to Mount Pearl from Fredericton. We happened to be the only guests staying there that night. I have to say we had a wonderful nights sleep. The beds were really comfortable and the whirlpool tub was a real treat for me. The next morning bright and early the lady looking after us came and cooked us a great breakfast and saw us off on the next leg of our journey, Thanks Hilda.
I would have no qualms about recommending this hotel to family and friends and would gladly stay there again.

We stayed in the Nutmeg Room near the end of July. It was a stopover for us to Gros Morne. The room was spacious and the bathroom had both a shower and soaker tub. It was relaxing having a nice bath after driving all day. Bed was comfortable. No bedbugs.

There needs to be better sound insulation. At 11PM when we were trying to sleep, we could hear another room's TV very loudly. It seemed to be coming from below us but we ended up turning on the radio to have some white noise.

Breakfast was awkward. Serves us right for having a later breakfast. There was family of four and the hostess seated us with this family - my husband and I were sitting at opposite ends of the table with the family between us. Everyone was uncomfortable. The family of four was already halfway through their breakfast but they started to eat faster when we arrived. We should have asked if we could come back.

Breakfast itself was ho-hum. Two strips of bacon and two pieces of French toast. A yogurt too. Ever since staying at J.A. Moisan in Quebec City, I've been ruined on breakfasts at B&Bs. J.A. Moisan knew how to wow you with gourmet breakfasts and put others to shame. There was nothing wrong with the breakfast at Carriage House Inn. It was just something I could have cooked at home. It would have been nice to partner up with local merchants to highlight local goods. Maybe using their jams and jellies.

The freshly baked cookies and tea available all day were nice.

Room Tip: The Nutmeg is on the second floor and has a soaker tub.

We stayed at the Carriage House Inn in Grand Falls-Windsor as a stop over on our drive from the Gros Morne to Twillingate. We stayed in the Ruby Room which was small but adequate. We didn't realize that the Carriage House Inn seems to be in the "suburbs" and as we were there on a Monday we had a hard time finding a good restaurant that was open. We drove around quite a bit and unfortunately had to settle for Don Cherry's. Although the meal was pretty good the place was very mediocre. Breakfast the next morning at Carriage House was delicious. As a stop-over to a further destination, the Carriage House fit the bill.

The inn is located on a quiet residential street. We had booked two rooms (2 couples). Shortly after I had made the reservations ( several weeks ago) I received a call advising the one of the rooms I requested was not available and the only room available was a smaller room with a queen. I took the room. The couple travelling with us took the larger room which was very spacious and well equipped. Our room on the lower level was very small but was satisfactory. The shower stall in the bathroom was very small. I had a difficult time moving around in it. Very noisy in our room from persons in rooms either beside us or above us especially very early in the morning (5:30am) We had reservations for breakfast at 7:30 and were served with a fresh hot french toast and bacon. Enjoyed the breakfast.

Room Tip: Suggest requesting one of the larger rooms.

Stayed here for 1 night on a stopover crossing the Province. This is by far the best B & B we have stayed in. Immaculate, spotless - we enjoyed it very much. Stayed in Room # 10 - large room with king bed and jacuzzi in bathroom. Two lovely sitting areas downstairs - one with computer with free internet. Spacious dining area with a kitchen that has fruit ,cookies, tea and coffee available all day long for the guests. A small fridge where you can store any drinks or food. Nice deck outside for lounging. Nice breakfast served in the morning. Great location - just off the Trans Canada

Beautiful property, although apparently quite old, everything including the floors looks brand new. We stayed in No. 9 Rani, and it was spotless and charming, except for the strong perfume smell and the window air-conditioner which prevented actually opening the window. The machine was so loud, we couldn't use it. Nonetheless, managed a good sleep. Breakfast was two slices french toast with 3 rashers of bacon, orange juice and tea or coffee. There was also a bowl of fresh apples and oranges on the side counter. Although served cheerfully, it was a bit mundane. One odd thing we noticed is that the website photo of this room shows the window on a side wall (with no AC), when in fact it is located at the head of one of the beds. We peaked in a couple of other rooms and they also looked quite nice, but one also had the same problem with no fresh air.
