“Restaurant-We will be back soon!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2011

Just traveling around the Muskoka area and stopped in for a bite to eat. The food was amazing! We will definitely recommend this restaurant to all of our friends!

Restaurant - Lousy: uncooked & disorganized
Rooms - a bed and a TV, housekeeping poor
Pools - small
Lake - shallow
Recommend for families - No
Recommend for couples - No
Repeat - No

The service and attention to detail in the boathouse restaurant were a disgrace. We arrived at 6:30, ordered for children right away. Burgers for the kids 4-8 yrs arrived 1 hour later cooked somewhere between raw and rare. The plain pasta for the 18 month old arrived 1 hour and 30 minutes after ordering. The food for adults was mediocre, undercooked and slow.
We spoke with the manager about the lousy service and she blamed our large group of "disobedient girls" (we had 6 kids but only 1 girl) They took no responsibility for a process that cannot deliver food of average quality in reasonable time.
Lousy management, lousy service and I have no plans to ever return.
Admitted positives - high speed internet was good, waitresses were pleasant and tried their best.

Travelling with family(3 young kids) and wife this weekend for an extended weekend. Normally don't have a problem checking in early, but here we had to wait right until 4, but the hotel allowed us all the amenities. As we walked down what appeared to be a newly renovated corridor of rooms and were able to peek inside, we were somewhat disappointed with the older style room we got, but it was still nice and comfortable. The property was beautiful and well maintained with a few exceptions....the sauna did not seem to work and the staff I asked told me it was working, but clearly since it was cold inside and not heating up at all, it was not. Parking was an issue, not that there wasn't parking, but we had to walk quite far to the nearest space since most of the parking is reserved for the condo/timeshare units. If you are a light sleeper like myself, who doesn't like air cond. in Muskoka and sleep with the windows open....you will need a room on the lake-side....the hotel's vehicles and staff and guests vehicles and staff are not very considerate of late night and early morning loudness in the parking lot adjacent to the "resort-view" rooms. There was some inconsistency in the programs offered which was a bit annoying....some of the "scheduled activities" appeared to be forgotten or staff was not around to initiate. In particular, we looked forward to the bonfire Sunday night....we went into Gravenhurst for dinner, only to return to the hotel in time for the fire, to find out it had been cancelled earlier due to weather( a few light sprinkles???) The kids were heartbroken to miss out on s'mores, and heck, the hotel and surrounding areas experienced a blackout for the next 3 hours....what else was there to do....what else would have entertained some otherwise bored guests during a blackout?
Checked out the next morning but stayed around for most of the day to enjoy the factilites of the hotel....was very perturbed to find out that we missed a FREE breakfast offered to all guests(but us?) to compensate for the inconvenience of the blackout the night before.....we had to avoid feeding our family at the hotel since the menu was a bit overboard expensive for a family of 5....breakfast, we figured would set us back a minimum of $120....for kids ages 9,6, and 5! They really should have put a little memo under everyone's door overnight to inform them of that "treat." I just felt like we missed the boat even though we suffered through the blackout like everyone else.
Anyhow, the beach was great, for younger kids especially, you could walk to 250 m at least and still be waist deep(kid waist). The trails were beautiful and would have been fun if the person at the activities centre had checked the bike they gave my son first....the chain was about as loose as could be and the thing fell off about 40 times over the course of the trail....needless to say it was more trouble than it was worth.....check your chain before you head out is the lesson here! Overall, we had a very nice time at Taboo....the facilities were pretty nice, but they could use some work on some of the "details." The staff btw, were all very pleasant and very helpful.

Room Tip: I reserved 6 weeks in advance to get a decent rate...note my recommendation for quietness of a lake...

I wanted to take my family for a nice summer vacation, and this worked out perfectly for us. We live in Pickering, and it took only 2 hours to drive to Taboo. Start to finish the service was excellent. The resort was amazing, the lake is beautiful, and we enjoyed everything about it. We look forward to making a trip to Taboo an annual family tradition.

Room Tip: Make sure you request a lakeview room, on the 4th floor.

We went there in July and found the grounds to be beautiful. I had mentioned on the phone that this was a "Birthday Celebration" and found a nice card with a sachel of chocoloates on the bed. A very nice touch! The beds were very comfortable and the room clean.

The food was very good, but pricey. We went to play ping pong and the rec center was closing. The recreation lady said no problem - she just would contact security to lock up when we leave. Very accomidating! All in all - a nice place with an excellent staff who know how to treat guests well.

Our hotel room was large and the beds were very comfortable. There are three outdoor pools and since we went during the week, we almost always had a pool to ourselves, which was nice. The only disappointment (but it's a huge one) was the lake. The beach area is in a swampy little bay. The water is only thigh deep for at least half a kilometer out, and by the time you wade far enough into the lake to swim you're in the path of boats. The worst part though was the white spongy foam that floated around on the surface of the lake. It looked dirty and entirely unappealing. The reason we go north is to swim in lakes, but we spent most of the time swimming in pools. We didn't golf, but I expect that golf is the main attraction of the resort.

I stayed at this hotel in the fall for a business conference. I loved it. However, there are a variety of rooms. I was in a two level room that was too big for one person but great for a large family. Some of my friends were in lovely renovated rooms that had hardwood floors. That is the type of room you should ask for.

The workout room was average, not great. The food was really good in the restaurant. There is hiking, which was beautiful with the fall colours and gold nearby. The service was good and valet parking is offered.
