We actually stopped in Ladysmith for a bathroom break on our drive from Sooke to Nanaimo. After dropping into the Visitor's Center, they suggested walking around the town which we did and on our walk we happened upon this cute little bakery. My husband is a fast walker and would prefer just to get from point A to point B, but I love going into bakeries even if just for whiffs of aromas or ideas for my own baking at home.
So we go into the bakery and found all kinds of deliciousness! I love chocolate chip cookies so I got one and my husband got an oatmeal raisin cookie and a date bar. They have 2 sizes - small and large. The large size cookies are HUGE and only cost $1.25!!!! What a bargain! We raved about our treats for days! We stopped in other bakeries on the island but none of the cookies compared to those we found in Ladysmith! We ultimately drove all the way up to Port Hardy and then on our drive back down to Victoria, we planned to stop in Ladysmith for more cookies. As we neared Nanaimo we got excited and as we neared Ladysmith the excitement could have jumped out of the car!
They do have other baked goods, pies and I think lunch items as well. We were only there for treats and on our 2nd visit there, we told them that they were our favorite bakery on the whole island, which they appreciated hearing. We also went back to the Visitor's Center and told them that they should be marketing that Ladysmith has the best bakery on the island.
Ladysmith is a small town and there are many cute little stores and eateries. But for really good quality baked goods, stop here. You will not be disappointed. Don't just get one - get a few. You will enjoy each delectable morsel!
