We visited Lunenburg several days before the Bluenose II was to be relaunched. Arrived for lunch at Magnolia's only to discover that they were out of the scallops and halibut we had been looking forward to having. We were disappointed after reading so many positive reviews. We ordered the mussels and fish-cakes which turned out to be very tasty. Service was somewhat slow, but friendly. I don't really know if the value was there because we didn't have the opportunity to order what we initially wanted to have.

My wife and I stopped by Magnolia's recently. It was small inside but quaint.
Our waitress was very good and checked back with us periodically to see if we
needed anything more.

I had their fishcakes w/Greek salad, a cup of tomato cheddar soup, and the misses had the pastrami, ham, and swiss cheese sandwich which came with a dill pickle and potato chips.
The tomato soup was great. Full flavour and a nice thickness to it. Absolutely first rate.
The salad was good but the fishcakes were disappointing. I found they had no crunch
whatsoever and were mushy. The taste was okay and once the rhubarb chutney was added they
were better. The thing that almost saved that dish was the chutney. My wife's sandwich was on fresh bread and good but for $12.50 it did not seem like good value. I had tea to drink and this is one of the few places I've been to that know how to serve tea.....in a crock pot and not plastic or stainless steel.

As far as the decor goes, we found most of it very homey. The different salt and pepper shakers are a nice touch. What we didn't get were those bench seats. Felt like we were at Sunday service and they were difficult to extricate yourself from after dining.

Loads of great reviews for this place but I'm at a loss to explain why…
Found the lobster linguine stodgy with the pasta drowning in cream sauce, big serve but got a bit samey after half way.
Spiced shrimp (prawns) were decent albeit light on any real depth of flavour.
Garlic cheese bread was a relic of the 1980's…
Service was friendly and prompt as an upside but the bill didn't reflect the experience.
Not really sure why this place is so highly rated…

We walked in and expected Burgers and Sandwich, but what we got was a nicely prepared dinner. As appetizer we started with delicious mussels, followed by a mouthwatering Caribbean style chicken dinner. The service was as good as the food and we can only recommend this nicely decorated restaurant.

We stopped in to this little gem during our East Coast tour this fall. We wanted to try out one of those places featured on 'You got to eat here'. We were not disappointed. The soups were terrific and the sandwich was great. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.
