“Amazingly Innovative”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2011

My sister and I stayed here during a road trip of Nova Scotia. When we checked in, we were a little disappointed not to get one of the Victorian rooms, but we were lucky to get any room at all since the annual Folk Festival was going on in Lunenberg, and the Mariner King is conveniently located for waterside events. When we saw our room, in one of the two auxiliary historic houses that have been converted by the Mariner King Inn (additional to the original one), our only regret is that we couldn't stay longer.
The elevator to the room (a rarity in a Victorian building) hinted at the creativity to come. A painting inside the elevator took you from under the sea to the surface. Our third floor suite was small, but packed with delightful design and surprises like a painting over the bed that was actually the A/C! The furniture was modern and comfortable. Breakfast (not included with the room) back at the main building is the most plentiful I've seen since I traveled in Germany and Austria. You sit in a glassed in sun room and serve yourself from bounteous buffets in the Victorian dining room and in the sun room.
If I ever get back to Lunenberg, I'll definitely go back to the Mariner King. (Parking is limited to city streets which can be very crowded during a special event, but we waited until the crowds thinned out and moved our car to a spot right beside the hotel.)

Room Tip: Because the hotel was packed, I did not get a look at the period rooms, but based on our experience...

We travelled here to this beautiful corner of Canada for a wedding with family. Everything about the Mariner King was impecable. From the quality of the room to the service and the food. Their staff are very friendly and accomodating looking after all of our querstions and requests. As breakfast is included in a stay here be sure to try the lobster eggs benedict - awesome!!
Lunenberg itself is well worth the trip to the area however we highly recommend the Mariner for its ambience, location, "can-do" staff and just plain relaxing environment.

My husband and I spent a night at this lovely inn in pictureque Lunenburg. Even tho we weren't far from home, it made us feel like we were someplace magical far away.People were very nice and accommodating and the room( in the main building ) was cozy and the king size bed was to die for. Felt like I was sleeping on a cloud.Bathrooms all renovated with nice tile and glass showers. Love the orange soap.
The breakfast ,included with your room, was served in a lovely sunroom and very good with lots of variety or you can order off the menu for a hot breakfast.Tea in a china cup.... very special.
WE will go back I am sure. Also another recommendation is to the 'Trattoria del nonna restaurant down the street which is associated with the Inn., Spectacular is all I have to say.Best Italian food we have ever had.

I chose The Mariner King for women on Serendipity Traveler's Walking in Nova Scotia Tour knowing the location was perfect for exploring Lunenburg. The inn has been thoughtfully updated and rooms in the original building are comfortable, linens lovely, and breakfast cooked to your request by their notable chef.

Room Tip: Prefer rooms in the original building

The Inn consists of restored 19th century buildings. The first two nights we stayed in the Cranberry building which had beautifully restored suites. The last night we stayed in the main building. If you need an elevator and want contemporary decor and a great shower select the Cranberry Suites. If you prefer a Victorian furnished suite with a free-standing tub, select the main building. Both had a great Keurig coffee maker, but the minibar did not leave much room for personal items.

The only parking is metered, on the street. Fortunately, the meters are only in effect from 10 to 5 on weekdays.

The complimentary breakfast buffet, including hot items off a menu, was one of the best we have ever had. The hotel also serves an excellent gourmet dinner, which was reasonably priced except for slightly pricey wines.

Very friendly, helpful staff.

When you pull into the town of Lunenberg, you can't help but feel that you stepped back into history. The town itself is small, sweet, quaint and simply fabulous. And then you get to the Mariner King Inn and you know you hit the jackpot. Located right smack in the centre of this gorgeous little hamlet, the Mariner King is gorgeous, sweet, quaint, fun, spread over several little buildings, all painted different colours and named.

And then we walked into our room, in the bright green building with a cute little houseware store (called Cilantro) in the lobby. The room was heavenly. Gorgeous bed with gorgeous sheets and tons of pillows. A huge bathroom with a massive tub, and a rain shower that had several other spouts. Incredible toiletries that smelled like orange and great soft white towels. There was a coffee maker and coffee in the room, as well as hot chocolate, and both were free. TV's in both the bedroom and the living area. Wifi, computer plug in with the codes, and a safety deposit box. Everything in the room was made of ceder and smelled delicous.

Breakfast is included with the room and is located in the main building of the Inn, where you check in. Friendly and very helpful staff completed our experience. I would go back to Lunenberg tomorrrow if I could and defitinitely stay at the Mariner King Inn again. Great experience.

Great little Inn in Lunenberg. We had large room at the front with a separate lounge area. Flatscreen tvs in each, one with a dvd. Modern but elegant bathroom. Large kingsize bed. They had really thought of everything - coasters where you wanted them, toiletries were great, good quality bed, proper coffee making machine. Breakfast was amazing, and service overall very good. Only small criticism is could feel waterproof cover under the comforter. You'd hope needed for an adult bed and makes it a little slippy and overhot.
