We spent 4 nights in September and enjoyed it so much are going back again this June.

The Rum Runner has possibly the best views of any place in Lunenburg. The rooms had everything we needed. A very comfortable king sized bed, fridge, internet access, good space, very clean. A bonus, especially if the weather doesn't co-operate, is having inside access to arguably the best restaurant in town.

Not only is Lunenburg a destination of its own, to us this represents a far better jumping off point for touring around Nova Scotia than, for example, Halifax. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to reach Lunenburg from the Halifax airport.

I was very impressed about the room with the view, which I recently booked at Rum Runner Inn. The view is worth a million dollar and I enjoyed my 3 days stay there very much. Very polite and knowlegable staff at the front desk. The room was very large and clean and I had the best night sleep ever on a business trip. I will certainly come again...

We looked over the property and were told there was a room for $109. The room was very nice, the city was charming, so the next morning we asked if we could have the same room another night, and the answer was yes. When we checked out we received only a 3 inch wide credit card receipt, and the room was $159 per night. The owner said the clerk quoted the rate incorrectly when I contacted the hotel later. With no written quote to show otherwise, I paid it. The "Continental Breakfast" for 2 was two 8 oz boxes of orange juice, an apple, a banana, and a vending machine package of 2 stale muffins. NOT worth $159 per night. I definitely advise getting a written price quote, and checking the amount on the bill when you leave. Better yet, choose another hotel.

These particular guests were originally interested in a room for the rate of $109.00 which is a standard queen size bedroom with coffeemaker, mini fridge, a/c and cable TV. They decided to stay in a very spacious room with 2 beds and a fantastic water view overlooking Lunenburg’s beautiful harbor and golf course and access to the veranda from the room. Our well trained front desk clerk preauthorized their credit card during regular check in procedure and at 5.04 pm the guest signed the preauthorization for the rate of $159.00. I am sorry I do not see any kind of surprise. The guest had it in writing.
Our rates are published through our website and through many other organizations were we are proud members of. These are guaranteed rates. We, at the Rum Runner Inn, we do not make business as this customer is trying to describe. In addition, he does not even appreciate a complimentary breakfast.

We chose the Rum Runner for a 2-night stay, largely because of location and because we didn't wish to stay in a very small B&B, which most in Lunenburg seem to be.

Rooms were clean, spacious, and modern, but surprisingly sterile for such a great location. The innkeeper touted the glassed-in balconies on our adjacent rooms, which did have a great view of the harbor, but we quickly found that because the partitions between balconies did not go all the way to the ceiling it was impossible to have a private conversation out there.

Since breakfast was not included in the room price, we felt that the price was a bit high for so late in the season (last half of September), particularly because sales taxes are very high and no longer refundable to foreign tourists.

The mediocre in-house restaurant is under separate management and does not serve breakfast, but happily there are excellent options just down the block. We were surprised to encounter quite strong cooking odors in the stairwell leading to our room, even the morning after when the restaurant was closed.

A final point - the inn has no off-street parking, so during the day you must occupy a metered space out front. The innkeeper is quite willing to stoke the meter with $1 coins (which you provide, of course) but it can add up.

Loved this room. Overlooked the harbour where the Blue Nose was docked when we were there. The staff was extremely friendly, and caring. The room was very big, with the king sized bed & couch, coffee table and very clean. Extra bedding, and pillows were in the closet, handy if needed. The bedding was not your average hotel bedding and was very homey - comfortable. Had our own deck to sit out and overlook the harbour. Had supper downstairs which was fantastic and the front desk staff checked in on us in the restaurant to see how things were. Very personal touch. Upon arriving back in our room, we found a breakfast basket on the coffee table, containing juices, fruits, and muffins for the morning. A very personal touch in our opinon of their caring for their guests. Fridge for our drinks, and coffee/tea maker. Would definately stay here again - even for the price - was worth the view to see the boats docked for the night.
