“Charming and Beautiful”
Reviewed July 28, 2013

We recently stayed at this Victorian inn. We were given a warm and friendly welcome by Andrea complete with a map of the city and things to see. The inn was in a great location, walking distance to the harbour and downtown shops. Our room was amazing, the bed was comfortable and the ambiance of the house can not be described with words. In the morning we were given a delicious breakfast in an elegant restaurant located at the front of the house. We would stay at this inn again.

This was my first trip to Lunenburg.I was so pleased that we chose to stay at the Bluenose Lodge. We were welcomed warmly at the door by the owner, Catherine, who greeted us by name.
The lodge is beautiful inside and out.Though it is quite stately, there is a warm and relaxed atmosphere that is perfect for the seaside town.
There are 3 floors (no elevator). But so many charming prints and historical pictures on the walls that we hardly noticed our climb to our rooms on the top floor. My room was lovely, with painted plank board flooring,a beautifully made up queen size bed with lots of pillows and lace.
A large ceiling fan and fan in the window made kept the room very comfortable. The room was very bright & clean.I would like to have stayed longer!
We had a lovely breakfast (included) in the lodges bright and spacious restaurant. It included french toast, fruit and yogurt.
The lodge is full of antiques ,but is not stuffy or cluttered in the least. There are large halls with sitting areas on each floor. Though there are no tvs in the rooms, I noticed some children playing a game system in the sitting room on the second floor.
I would certainly stay at the Bluenose Lodge again , and would recommend it to people of any age.

Room Tip: If stairs are difficult for you, choose a room on a lower floor.

The decor of this charming Inn certainly has you thinking Victorian era. The rooms are a good size and the beds are very comfortable. Not really aware of street noise even though we had the windows open. Good size guest lounge on ground floor with laptop for guest use and small sitting areas upstairs with TV. The owner, Andrea is friendly and most helpful. Good location - easy walking distance to waterfront area.
We had dinner at the restaurant (Bluenose Lodge Restaurant) and it was wonderful. The food literally melted in your mouth. My husband claimed it was the best sallmon he had ever tasted - and he has tasted alot! The service was first rate - we enjoyed the fact that the plates weren't whipped away as soon as you put your fork down. The breakfast was also great. Definately worth a visit

First, this is an Inn, not a B&B. There are more than 4 guest rooms, the owner does not live on site, and there is a full restaurant run as a separate business in the house and through it, the breakfast is offered in partnership with the Inn. With that clarification in place, I would have to say that Andrea is an exceptional Innkeeper ... very personable with a passion for what she does.

You would not think Lunenburg would have a noisy street corner but it does and it happens to be right at the corner of this Inn's location. If you are a light sleeper, take your earplugs; otherwise, enjoy the sounds of the old home and others in it. The fire department is a block away and can be noisy if called on an alarm and it looks as though they will be constructing a gas station/burger king immediately across the street in the future. Given that tourism appears to be down all over Nova Scotia with properties for sale every where, and this Inn was mostly empty during our 3 day stay, I wouldn't be surprised if construction of that gas station/burger king did not go ahead as planned leaving what is left of the views in sight!

The cancellation policy is not guest friendly at all so be sure you review those terms closely before committing to a reservation.

The restaurant on site served delicious food in a friendly and welcoming environment. The breakfast as part of othe reservation at the Inn could have been more substantial given the price paid for the rooms; however, the quality of the food served and the service provided was exceptional! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to those staying at the Inn and any others.

The pricing of the Inn rooms... well, we certainly had better value for our dollar at other venues in this province on this trip. With the 15% tax added on there is some sticker shock so if you are budget/value conscious, you will want to calculate that in to your decision.

We did not see the inside of the second building available to book so cannot speak to it. In the main Inn, if you have any challenges with stairs or mobility, there is one room available on the main floor that you might want to consider rather than totting your bags up to the second or third floor. If you can manage your luggage on the stairs, I would recommend taking a room on the second or third floor away from the main floor traffic to and from the restaurant.

For us, this is now a "been there, done that" venue; however, we are very likely to return to Lunenburg once Bluenose II is sailing again and open to the public. If we do return, we will likely book in to a true B&B or perhaps another Inn to experience what they have to offer. I would recommend to others that you try this venue yourself; however, book only one night in advance so that if you decide it is not for you the cancellation policy will not impact you. It truly is a beautiful building, and Andrea is a gracious Inn Keeper just a phone call away if you need anything.

Room Tip: Stairs so if mobility and/or carrying luggage is an issue, this may not be the venue for you.

The room was very good, large and airy with extremely comfortable beds. The breakfast was also extremely good with a nice choice and Andrea is a great host. She suggested things for us to do and directed us to the weekly farmer's market which was brilliant. It is well situated for the waterfront and restaurants. A great stay

Room Tip: If you have problems with stairs make sure you request a ground or first floor room

A well run afair. Andrea is an excellent innkeeper. It is evident that she loves her Inn and committed to the satisfaction of her guests. It is a very old house in excellent repair, so a creak from a floor or a squeak from a door should be expected.

Room Tip: Families wanting separate but close quarters do well in the carriage house. Shared bath, but walls a...

We stayed at the Bluenose Lodge for 1 night in Aug 2012 while travelling through Nova Scotia.

We had a room on the 2nd floor. The room was large and clean. We enjoy staying at B&Bs but there are a couple of things we did not like about this place.

1. Noise travels here. We could hear the people above us - every thump, every scrap. Probably didn't help that there were 2 large groups of families the same time we stayed here.
2. There was a hair in my breakfast (eggs, ham, and cheese over a english muffin). Really disappointing.

Except for the above, Andrea (the owner), was kind and a lot of help. She gave us great ideas for resturants for dinner and things to do in Lunenberg. And location was perfect - a 5 minute walk and you are in the old town.

Room Tip: Try a room on the top floor. Maybe you won't hear the other guests as much.
