This is an excellent museum that tells so much about life on the water. Be sure to see the film about "Bluenose." It is fascinating story about this schooner.

We went later in the day, and all passes were very discounted. It also translated into fewer staff to give tours and explanations, but there are things to do and see on your own. The displays were nice, but there were not that many displays to see, in terms of live marine life.

Amazingly, I found the display on the 2nd floor to be of more interest, when you talk to the presenter, and they show you the size of a cod, how they dry it, pack it in barrels (a la "shove it in with a press") and the history was pretty neat.

Lets out at a restaurant, which is convenient, or the most amazing ploy to get you to eat there that I've seen

I'm not sure I would spend more than about 90 minutes here, and coming a couple hours before closing with discounted tickets was worth it. I'm not sure I would have been as happy if I paid full price in the morning.

Take a tour if offered. Docents are very good. Enjoyed hearing the history of the residents and seeing crafts made by whe women when their men were at sea.

Thank you for your kind review. You are correct, we explore all aspects of life in a fishing community, which certainly means the ladies on the homefront. I will pass on your kind word to the ladies in our volunteer Ice House Spinning group.

I had not visited the Fisheries Museum for a good many years and was very pleasantly surprised at what has been done there in terms of the quality of the exhibits and how interesting it all is, even though I know most of what they are telling everyone. The "aquarium" on the ground floor is not as great as many similar ones elsewhere, but the second and third floors are really done very well and you would certainly not want to rush through as there is a lot of interesting detail.

Even if you're not interested in fishing, you can find some interesting things in this museum. We found especially fascinating the women weaving the way the wives of the fishermen would have and the movie on shipbuilding. Also outside are several interesting boats you can go on. It is worth a stop.
