Everything about Alicion was great: the hosts' hospitality, gardens, breakfasts, decorations including antiques and fine furniture, and cleanliness. Stay there when in Lunenberg and you will not regret it.

We really enjoyed our stay at Alicion. It is a beautiful old home with furnishings that compliment it perfectly. We "dined" in an elegant dining room with a fireplace with a lovely sitting room off of it where one could relax with your morning coffee or afternoon cup of tea. We enjoyed sitting out on the verandah on this quiet street.
Our Dragonfly room was lovely with a very accomodating large bathroom. The dragonfly theme is carried out throughout. The bed was super-comfortable.
Lorne was such a gracious host and what delicious breakfasts he prepared! Lots of fresh fruit and yogurt to start and then a breakfast "fit for the queen" to follow.
We were situated in the town close enough to walk to the wharf and Old Town area in about ten minutes. Very good memories of this stay for sure.

My wife and I stayed at The Alicion Bed and Breakfast this past July during our trip out East and we were both very happy we decided to stay here while in Lunenburg. We were only a short walk away to the main areas.

The house itself was stunning, both inside and out and furnished beautifully. Lorne’s amazing photographs were a nice touch and added to the overall beauty of the house. We had stayed in the Dragonfly Room, which was very well appointed, comfortable and clean. We liked the fact that where possible, ‘green’ products were being used. The breakfasts were very good and made from local organic ingredients.

Lorne and Janet were very gracious hosts. Janet provided some great tips such as going to Hirtles Beach (which was wonderful), The Ovens, over to the golf course to take some pictures of the town, and of course places to dine. We really enjoyed our conversions over breakfast with Lorne and the other guests.

A very nice stay overall and we would definitely recommend to anyone visiting beautiful Lunenburg.

Sometimes, I allow my husband to make the choices in booking, so I was a little nervous about our trip to Lunenburg where he had chosen our lodging. Lucky for him, he really got it right on this trip.

The Alicion is absolutely one of the best B&Bs I have been to (we seek out B&Bs and vintage inns instead of hotels). The home is amazing and in a perfect spot; just moments away from the town center but on a very quiet and peaceful street (note the trail you can use on the town map for a quick shortcut into the main harbor). Mature trees surround the property and provide great privacy.

The owners, Lorne and Janet, did everything to make us feel welcome; from providing excellent sightseeing advice to even allowing us to use their bikes for the morning (ok, for an hour or so...we're kind of out of shape). They clearly care about the home and have great stories about its history and the town of Lunenburg in general (ask to see the carriage house if it is unoccupied- amazing!). Our room- the Periwinkle- faced northeast and was spotless, comfortable and charming. If you've ever wanted to try a hydrotherapy tub check it out! It is not like a regular jaccuzi...if you have sore muscles it is a treat. The breakfasts were excellent and perfect for us; they clearly source good eggs and also went out of their way to get gluten-free toast for us. I love that they integrate lots of vegetables into their omelettes.

Be sure to ask for their recommendations if you don't see something in their book that you like. My only regret is that I didn't stay longer and enjoy more of the things they suggested.

Please

Room Tip: Kingfisher is on the first floor; the other rooms are on the second. Go see Hirtle Beach!!! worth it. Kayak the ovens. Amazing!

We stayed 2 nights at Alicion in a fabulous large room, complete with a spa tub and a great bed. The breakfasts Lorne cooked were truly wonderful each morning. Alicion is a spotless well kept roomy house situated away from noisy traffic. Although the furnishings were beautiful and rich, the guest areas and room didn't 'feel' very warm as they lacked a personal touch. It felt more like a hotel than a B&B. While tea was available, there was not a lot of selection and the water jug (when we went to get tea) was empty. When we arrived we were shown the basics, but then left alone rather than being engaged in conversation. We didn't feel like part of the 'family' like we experienced at the other B&Bs on this trip. There were, however, great suggestions (on paper) as to where to eat and what to see in the area, which we found of great benefit during our short stay.

We thank this guest for the lovely compliments about the spacious nature of our rooms, the “beautiful and rich” furnishings and the wonderful breakfasts.

The fact that our rooms are uncluttered is one characteristic that is praised frequently and we are proud of how well appointed our rooms are. We have made a conscious effort to depart from what the industry refers to as “dust and doilies” and our rooms are full of personal touches. Lorne is a nature photographer and his photographs adorn several walls along with high quality local art, pottery and ornaments, all in keeping with the various nature themes or to honour the heritage and historic integrity of this fine house.

We regret that we were not available to engage these guests for an extended period on check-in; however, we note that most guests are anxious to get out and see the Town. Becoming “family” is a tall order. We devote a great deal of our time during the breakfast period to provide guests with suggestions on what to see and where to go and this we do joyfully.

Respectfully,
Lorne and Janet, Alicion Bed & Breakfast
