After visiting Spag and Co's sister restaurant, Pizzateria, we were excited to have a casual and pleasant dinner at Spag and Co. We were sorely disappointed.
The atmosphere was, at best, chaotic. From the moment that we joined the unreasonably long line to be seated, it was obvious that the restaurant was understaffed. Waiters were running around the restaurant, seating waiting diners, serving food, and bartending. Cooks were cleaning tables and cooking. No maitre'd appeared to be on staff and no staff member seemed to understand how to contribute. The restaurant would benefit greatly from better staff organization.
We waited for 40 minutes to be seated (that too, without any organized system), despite the numerous empty tables and the seating of other 2-person parties who had arrived after us.
After we were seated, our waitress, Caroline, was unforgivably rude. She refused to stand at our table to answer requests or questions. In fact, she never asked if we needed anything or filled our water glasses. When we asked for the bread that literally every other table was given, she told us--with her back to us as she began servicing another table--that it was only for those who ordered pasta. On multiple occasions, she patently ignored our requests to speak with her.
The food itself was fine. We had the vegetarian pizza. It did not stand out for exceptional quality, but was acceptable given the type of restaurant.
In light of the awful atmosphere, incorrigible service, and fairly average food, I would neither return nor recommend this restaurant.
