“Amazing amazing amazing place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 26, 2007

This is a gem. It is a great place to stay. The host, Nico, was extremely nice, and full of energy. We she learnt that we were on our
honeymoon, and she went above and beyong the call of duty to make sure we had a GREAT experience staying in her home.

We had a chance to see all her rooms. They were all decorated very tastefully and in a very creative way. The house and rooms were spotless and clean. She has a very nice and spacious deck, and river frontage, that makes sitting outside very pleasurable.

The breakfast ... oh the breakfast ... hmmm. The breakfast was by far
the best meal we have ever had (and we had gone to some very high class restaurants). She made a breakfast for us that was fit for kings and royalty. The breakfast alone is worth the price of admission, as far as I am concerned.

This bed and breakfast has all the ingredients for a great experience, nice house, great rooms, wonderful surroundings, great host and excellent breakfasts.

We highly recommend it.

  • Liked — Off course the breakfast
  • Disliked — Nothing ... It was all great

Overview:
Spent four evenings in the Marquis Room, June 2007. Would defintitely stay again.

Staff:
Owner/Innkeeper/Chef Nicole Potvin is extremely able and magnanimously gracious. She knows how to walk the fine line between being an attentive host and providing the guests their own space. She knows a lot of local cuisine and is a great resource for local attractions.

Assistant is a neighbor, very friendly!

Property:
The gite is larger than it seems from the outside. A wrap-around porch provides numerous seating areas, including one set for breakfast. The indoor space has one common room replete with artsy, cat-themed decor provided by friends and past guests. There is also an indoor dining area which we used only once during our stay.

The grounds stretch across the street to the lake/riverside. It is wonderful for a peaceful walk, swim, or ride on the pedalo.

Located only a few-minute walk from the center of town. Quiet, but not totally secluded.

There are resident pets, including many cats and a dog. They are all warm and friendly. Spouse has cat allergies, but had no problems since the pets are not allowed in the guest rooms.

Room:
The Marquis room was cute, cozy and well-appointed. Not much space to sprawl out, a little tight with our bags, but that is why there are common areas at a gite. The featherbed was comfortable, but not too soft. Private bath, with claw-footed tub, was bright and cheery.

Foodservice:
The three-course gastronomic breakfasts were outstanding, and make the cost of the stay very economical! Everyday was different. Meals were prepared with skill and care, made with local products, and were to-die-for.

If you need to get out and on with your day, get up early. Our average breakfast lasted well over an hour. This is great if you want to relax and enjoy some of the finest food in the region, but not so good if you want to get going to sight-see.

The food was some of the best I have tasted in the entire region! Although I am happy with the breakfasts, it is a shame that she doesn't serve dinner.

Pros:
Gracious host

Beautiful grounds and convenient location

Feels like a home away from home

Outstanding gastronomic breakfasts

Cons:
Breakfasts can take a long time, so plan your day accordingly. Although, if you are staying here, you have come for the wonderful food!

Nicole Potvin maintains a gorgeous Victorian home on the shores of the Massawippi River at the junction of the river and the Massawippi Lake in the Eastern Townships of Quebec.
The B & B is an easy 7-8 minute walk into the village that offers an internet cafe, several lovely restaurants and a boat rental facilility.

North Hatley is near the Capelton Mines (a must for sightseers) and a few minutes from congested Magog.

Le Chat Botte offers three delightfully decorated rooms (smallish) with marvelous decorative touches everywhere. There are air conditioners and CD players in the rooms. Our room had a fireplace and plenty of seating for reading and relaxing.

The property fronts the river directly and Nico has landscaped the gardens so that they feel like extra rooms of the house. We used her peddle boat and explored the river. We sat in her Adirondack chairs and watched the loons and Canadian geese in the river.

The high point of each day was enjoying breakfast on her veranda with the other guests - all Canadian. Nico is an amazing chef and we were treated to three-course breakfasts each day. You would pay a fortune in a restaurant for these meals and they were merely included in the room fee! Best breakfasts we have ever enjoyed in a B & B in the US or Canada.

Le Chat Botte was truly rewarding serendipidy.

  • Liked — Graciousness of hostess and the delightful breakfasts on the veranda overlooking the river.
  • Disliked — Small rooms, no TV or internet access.
