“"le coeur d'or" maybe but we're still looking for that "hart of gold" auberge”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

We stayed at" Le coeur d'or" in North Hatley on our way from Ottawa to Bar Harbour for one night. The owners were cold and almost unpleasant. It was for one night only and as they have a restaurant, we booked the dinner that evening.

For the room we got, we had to cross an long bathroom first to get to a very small room. Jut room enough for a bed and a night stand.

The restaurant had good food. 30 dollars for the "table d'hote" supper but nothing extraordinary.
Anyway it was a "bring your wine" place so the total cost was not too bad. Host was the cook.

The :"too bad" anyway was the attitude of the owners and their non smiling place. I just figure that when you have a Bed and breafast you should - at least - be smiling from time to time. All in all a bad experience. Francoise H.

Room Tip: that is the question !

We didn't stay here, but we ate dinner here in late Sept. or 2012. The food was not spectacular, but the prices were quite steep. We found better value at the pub in town and better food and pricing at the Auberge Ayers Cliffs, which was worth the short drive from our North Hatley B&B.

A little dilapidated from the outside, but still charming. We stayed two nights in late June, and with no air conditioning our room (the Sunflower room) was a little hot. The room was furnished plainly but with taste and was clean and comfortable. However, the configuration was a bit odd: on unlocking the front door to our suite, we had to walk through a long, narrow bathroom to reach the bedroom. Our room had access to a shared terrace, but it lacked a view and seemed to soak up the heat so we didn't spend much time there.

We had dinner in the restaurant on our first night, and it was very good: a four- or five-course meal for around $40 per person. Small portions, but beautifully prepared and plated. I forgot to tell them ahead of time that I am vegetarian, but they improvised an off-menu meatless main course for me. The restaurant itself is a lovely spot overlooking a small garden. Crisp white tablecloths, dark red walls, cozy bookshelves and fireplace. There were no other diners the night we were there: perhaps it was too early in the season?

Breakfast was very good: juice, coffee, fruit, yogurt, home-baked ginger-fruit bread, and eggs, rabbit sausage, and toast.

We enjoyed our two night stay at the Auberge le Coeur d'Or. Our room was clean, and as we had paid for a larger room (number six), quite spacious. The mattress was comfortable.

The main street of the village with its shops was only a few steps away.

It was a treat to sit and read outside on the covered porch.

Even if you decide to stay somewhere else, consider giving the Auberge's intimate restaurant a try - we were very impressed. The restaurant does not offer a wine list, but lets you bring your own. (There is a grocery store around the corner that sells wine, and a SAQ outlet a few steps past the grocery store.)

My only negative comment was that their WIFI was not working properly for some guests.

Room Tip: You get what you pay for. The least expensive room is small and has a shower down the hallway, th...

Just back from a lovely stay at Coeur D'Or-only a hop and skip from the Vermont border. The rooms are not large but they are cozy, comfortable, and well appointed. Great windows, nice linens, and welcoming hosts. I can’t say enough about the food-fine cuisine-all four courses at dinner were beyond excellent and waking up to the delightful two-course breakfast was an amazing way to start the day. Such wonderful creative choices, excellent execution, and professional service were greatly appreciated. The sensible pricing and bring your own wine for dinner make this an incredible bargain as well. We loved our stay and will certainly return and recommend to friends.

Room Tip: Some rooms have terrace access-check the website.

We have been staying in this lovely inn at North Hatley regularly for the past 4 years while visiting our son at Bishop's University in nearby Lennoxville. That means we have enjoyed it in fall, winter and spring and it never disappoints. The beds are very comfortable, the rooms clean and bright and if we are staying for a few nights we book one of the "chalets" which have ample room, a jacuzzi tub and a well equipped kitchen. The latter is useful for snacks but not really necessary as the complimentary 2 course breakfast is so good and we always book in for at least one of Dominique's gourmet dinners. Be sure to bring your own wine (no corking charge) and be ready for a treat. Carole, who looks after all guest needs is friendly and accommodating and we love coming here. We have recommended it to friends who have also been very happy with Le Coeur d'Or. North Hatley is a delightful village on a scenic lake.

Room Tip: Check pictures on the website. Chalets are good value if you stay more than one night.

I went for the second time with my spouse at Auberge Le Coeur d'Or since we remembered it being a stunning experience when we went there 4 years ago.

It was still worth it. The room and dinner combo is a very great value package.

The room we picked was clean and spacious and the place itself is very calm and relaxing.

The food was great like we remembered. There are plenty of choices in the menu and Quebec's local products are used and it's very interesting to discover them.

The breakfast was very good. Lot of fruits, waffles, egg, cheese, rabbit sausage, etc.

The service was good by the owners of the inn. They are definitely people that disserve to be known for the quality of service procured.
