“Quiet, comfortable country retreat”
Reviewed August 26, 2011

Based on the reviews, we chose this family run inn for the last long weekend of our trip to Quebec. The two buildings on this vast piece of manicured countryside are expertly appointed and maintained, and the secluded pool with a lovely view of the valley and distant lake is refreshing (but over-chlorinated). Host Jean Yves was very personable and solicitous of our comfort. He provided suggestions and advice with gusto. The breakfasts were adequate though nicely presented, and our request for decaf coffee went nowhere. Unlike most inns/B &Bs, there are no facilities for making a hot drink, and this would have been helpful on a cool, stormy night. Overall, this place is very pleasant if a little overpriced.

Looking to get away from civilization? Le Tricorne is a gorgeous way to do so.

We had a somewhat atypical experience, as we stayed on Christmas Eve and so had the whole Inn to ourselves. The facility is lavish and spotlessly clean with only one exception (see CONS). Particularly nice bathroom, with an awesome Jacuzzi. The views of the Canadian wilderness were lovely to witness outside our warm room.

The proprietor went out of her way to welcome us, to arrange dinner for us at the only place in town open that night (which was overpriced and not very good, but that's not the Tricorne lady's fault!), and to have her kids make breakfast for us the next morning (we felt guilty for hauling them out on Christmas morning, but they were friendly and terrific cooks... THIS meal was amazing!)

There wasn't much to do in town, but then, it was an out-of-the way spot, AND it was Christmas Eve, so what did we expect? :)

PROS:
- Beautiful facility
- Spectacular views
- Wonderful staff
- Wireless internet, in a place you wouldn't expect it

CONS:
- Expensive (but then, we only do this kind of thing once or twice a year)
- The Inn was suffering a minor dead fly infestation at the time (it wasn't *that* bad, and I don't think it's a usual condition)
- Not much to do in the region, but then, I think if you don't visit on Christmas you'll probably find more to do :)

We want to come back in the summer, if we can save up for the high-season rate.

We ended up in North Hatley (coming back from Quebec city on a long weekend) and ended up in Le Tricorne to stay for a 2 nights. I found it a very nice place to stay well beyond my expectation. It is located in the country with a fantastic view towards the valley. The rooms are very nice and clean. Our rooms(we were 2 couples) located in the second building up the hill, were spacious and had nice furniture. There is NO TV in the room which amazingly helps in creating a relaxing environment! The pool is located in a nice spot outside the building. The breakfast is nice and served in the main floor. Overall a great place to be.

My wife and I were planning so spend a few days in North Hatley but found both the Auberge Hatley and Manoir Hovey were both sold out. So we decided to give Le Tricorne a try. Le Tricorne is a large bed and breakfast establishment. We took a standard room which was very small and cramped and definitely overpriced. Food offerings were very limited. I will not be returning. The nearby Manoir Hovey, in contrast, although more expensive is dripping with charm and has absolutely superb food. I will remember to book early next time!
