“Outstanding Service and Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 23, 2013

We had a fabulous stay at Hovey Manor. The location of the hotel on Lake Massawippi Is unbeatable. Service and dining were first rate. In particular I was impressed by a degree of professionalism and courtesy that i have rarely come across anywhere else in the world. They make it look effortless but I am sure a lot of work goes into hiring the best reception staff, having charming pool attendants and finding a bar man who can make a perfect cocktail off menu at the drop of a hat.

Our only reservation was that our Superior Room was perhaps smaller and less endowed with natural light than we might have hoped but it still had a large balcony overlooking the lake.

Room Tip: Go for a Deluxe Room or above.

My wife and recently I stayed at Manoir Hovey for our 20th anniversary. The rooms, grounds, food and staff were all amazing. There's really no reason to leave although the area has a lot to offer for outdoor recreation. The rates aren't cheap but this is one place where you really do get what you pay for. If you are staying for more than a few days you might want to head to town for a light dinner one evening as the five-star meals at Manoir Hovey can be a bit much.

Room Tip: Ask for a superior room with a balcony.

We spent a weekend for Mother's Day back in 1997 and loved every second of it. We went back to celebrate our 25th anniversary and took the degustation menu with wines for each of the seven course. It was a lovely dinner with a very attentive service. The Deluxe room was great with a fantastic view of the Massawipi lake. The breakfast was also very good and we passed it down with a canoe trek on the lake.

I took my entire family from grandkids on up to grandparents to the Manoir in early July.
We had an outstanding time, courtesy of the owner and his excellent staff. Food , service and surroundings were wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed this classy but comfortable spot on such a beautiful lake.

We went to Hovey several years in a row and then had a 5 year lapse before returning last May. It was just as wonderful as it was when we were there before and everything was still at the same high level of service and friendliness. The rooms look just like they do on the website, and the value for the accommodations and food is outstanding. We have recommended it to friends who loved it as well. If you are looking for an action packed vacation, this may not be the place. But if you are looking for somewhere beautiful to unwind, de-stress, explore the countryside, perhaps play a little golf etc, then this is perfection. We now measure other spots by our "Hovey standard" and have yet to stay anywhere that meets it. Our absolute favourite place to be!

I've been to Montreal several times in the past for business but on this occasion, I decided to spend an extra weekend to do some sightseeing. My wife and 2 year old joined me and as with any trip involving a young toddler, there's always some hesitation. My doubts went away as soon as we drove into the property. Gorgeous, lake side setting in late winter, it was everything I hoped for. We took junior out of his car seat after a two hour drive from Montreal and let him loose around the property. His first words upon seeing Lake Massawippi were "Wow". Walking around and inside the inn was a pure treat and we enjoyed sitting by the dock or in the forest listening to the sounds of nature. This is a great place to relax and de-stress.

Pros - friendly, helpful staff, delicious breakfast (highly recommend the eggs benny), nicely appointed room with patio and lounge chairs, beautiful common area rooms.

Cons - remote location, no fridge in rooms, overpriced dinner (Atlantic salmon was extremely disappointing)

It had been more than 20 years since my last stay and was my husband's first. Spending the night at Hovey Manor involved a detour en route to a USA conference but we were so taken with the beauty of the surroundings, the warm welcome and the superb dining that we made the same detour on our way home.

If possible, take a room with a balcony on the second floor overlooking the gardens and Lake. Just listening to the water and looking at the beautiful garden is worth the trip.
