“Really bad”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 3, 2013

The food was not really good, very slow service, you need to make sure you plan on spending the night for dinner, we were never offered a refill on our drinks. It took over 2hrs and 15 minutes and we left without having dessert and coffee, The front desk service was very acomodating. Our first room had red on the cover and some hair on the sheets, the manager? Had to come see it and they gave us a new room. So we not going to come back!!!!

My husband and I spent a night at this Auberge for a romantic weekend getaway. We found it to be a good base for exploring the area and going to Quebec.

The front desk employees were very helpful. The room we had (number 11) was dark and not very modern or well decorated. The beds were so hard it was worse than sleeping on the floor but the deep tub in the washroom was nice for a relaxing bath.

We went down to the Bistro for a couple drinks before dinner and loved it! Definitely the highlight of our stay. The gentleman working there was so pleasant and friendly and gave great service! We had great beer and a glass of the delicious house wine by the cozy fireplace with some of their famous smoked meat. We are from Montreal and the smoked meat we had there was the best we have ever had! Come to think of it, I wish we had cancelled our reservations upstairs and just had dinner there in the Bistro.

The "fine dinning" restaurant was insultingly horrible. Our server was nice enough and the restaurant itself was charming, but the service itself was atrocious and the food was forgettable.
I mentioned my gluten allergy which was accommodated but we waited over 45 minutes for appetizers (my husband got a potato soup even though he ordered the French Onion soup) a seafood dinner with scallops and shrimp (which he told me was again, mediocre and not at all memorable or worth the price) and some kind of chocolate mousse dessert (again not very good).

I had a salad, which I did enjoy (with candied pineapple I believe) and center cut steak with potatoes and veg. The steak was cold and the chef missed the mark on medium rare. The vegetables were few but I did quite like the potato side. For dessert they gave me a very sad fruit cup (worse than canned in flavor) which I understand they were probably doing their best in trying to have something to offer me, but I would have rather gone without in hindsight.

We went back to the restaurant for breakfast and that is where it became absolutely un-excusable. We waited 30 minutes to have to still practically chase down a server for a glass of water and menus (and the restaurant was half empty).Ten minutes later I again had to grab our server and asked if we could finally order and our waitress said "in a couple minutes". My husband ordered the healthy combo (banana bread, yogurt, a pastry, horrible fruit bowl etc) and I ordered two eggs with bacon. I also ordered gluten free bread as it was advertised on the menu.... It would have been a nice touch if the chef had given us some the night before with our dinner seeing as how it was in the kitchen... again, just those little touches that separate great service and fine dining from the rest (this restaurant fell into "the rest" category). Our breakfast came in about 15-20 minutes (our server forgot the gluten free bread and had to be asked for it again). The food was okay (my husbands favorite was the apple pastry) but nothing special. We were never checked up on and our drinks were never refilled. We again had a long wait to ask for the bill as our server never check on us or looked at our table but finally another server saw my credit card out and sent our server our way. We would never repeat!

So overall we will not be returning unless to stop in to the bistro for a great meal or evening drink.

Room Tip: We heard the one with the fireplace was nice. Ask for wood to burn.

Nice staff. A bit disorganized. Our room didn't have air conditioning - I understand most do. Restaurant was very nice - a bit pricey by USA standards, however in line with others in the area. The hotel is showing its age in a number of areas, however it is still functional. The wireless internet didn't work in our room - I had to go to the lobby to get a strong enough signal to login.
Almost all the staff spoke better English than I do French. Very convenient location to see the attractions in the area. If you are spending most of your time at St Anne's basilica, like we did, I'd recommend getting a hotel within walking distance - better deal for the money.

Room Tip: If you go in the summer - be sure to confirm you have an air conditioner. Might also want a room on...

We have stayed at the La Camarine 3 times (during the summers) over the years. It makes a great base to explore the various attractions around the Quebec city region.

Pros:
- Very friendly and helpful staff.
- Fantastic restaurant.
- Good prices (we usually contact the hotel 3 days before we plan to leave for cheaper last minute rates).
- Clean rooms.
- WiFi

Cons:
- Right by the highway, visually there are lots of trees but it can be noisy on the building's road side.
- Insist on an air conditioned room in the summer, and yes, the stand alone units can be a little noisy.
- Decor - nothing special - some rooms are a bit dark.

Room Tip: The brighter colour rooms in yellow keep children in a better mood. The darker rooms do not feel ve...

We used La Camarine as a starting point to visit the area North of Quebec City. The rooms are large and comfortable with spacious baths. The only drawback is the the hotel is by the main road so opening a window at night is not an option. Individual air conditioners work fine but are a bit noisy.
The restaurant is top-notch and its set menus are discounted for hotel residents. Staff is very pleasant, helpful, and knowledgeable about the area. The receptionist booked us on a wonderful whale-watching tour out of Baie Sainte-Catherine.

We rented 2 double queen rooms in July 2009. One of the beds was very wet, so after to complained they gave us another room. Guess what ? the shower head was missing in this one and the water pressure was terrible.
Okay, one room was good so we attributed the other to just bad luck.
When it was time for breakfast we knew bad luck had nothing to do with it, it was just bad service & understaffed. It took more than half an hour for the waitress in the restaurant to acknowledge us or bring us a menu (after 2 reminders). We were just sitting around in the restaurant watching other customers lose their temper or just get up and leave. We ended up leaving ourselves without any breakfast that was included as part of the stay - very sad indeed !

Our experience started with the check in, where they didn't have a record of our reservation, even though we had a conformation number from Priceline. The told us we could stay that night, but that they had no rooms available for the second night. We had to spend hours that evening on the phone, until they finally found a way to get us a room for our entire stay. While most rooms have a/c, our room had only a free standing fan. Between the summer heat and the hard mattress, we had an uncomfortable night.

When we returned to our room the second evening, the room had not been cleaned, nor the beds made. Since it was already after 11pm, there was nothing they could do about it, other than say they were sorry.

Overall, I would not recommend this Hotel.
