Description: The Loaf has been growing and evolving for seven years, from a start-up in a miner’s cottage to a firm favourite in Fernie’s Downtown core. Owners Phil & Claire Gadd have always designed The Loaf to be accessible and affordable, a neighbourhood restaurant where everyone is welcome and feels comfortable, no matter what the time of day. With excellent food, made from scratch on the premises daily. Now its time for some changes: updating the interior to make a more comfortable dining experience, extending the list of craft beers and offering more wines and liquor and creating an environment where the focus is on exceptional food, good company and the relaxed dining experience. “Our perfect wish for Fernie is a place with craft beers, a good solid wine list by the glass, pizzas, pasta, and some other nice mains, but nothing too fancy. And that’s exactly what we’re aiming to do at The Loaf.”

A really lovely little/big joint that was updated in 2012. The place is great for a delicious breakfast or lunch or dinner! Their pizza is wonderful and very filling, great to share on a romantic date! They have local beer too! Stay away from sitting at the windows in the winter as they do get cold! You can make reservations through their website, which should be done when the winter season is in effect.

Very expensive for the amount/quality of food you get- no better than a generic sandwich and the soup & sandwich special did not have an option of what type of soup you could choose. They had curried yam or mushroom. We requested mushroom only to be informed that it would cost $5 EXTRA for the same size. Ridiculous. Would not recommend. Plenty of other bakeries with better food/value in Fernie. We will not return.

Hi Stephanie

First of all I would like to say I am sorry that you feel our food is overpriced. We work very hard to find the right balance between quality and cost. Also I would like to point out that all our costs include HST so the soup and sandwich deal that is $10 on the menu, from that we only take $8.93 the rest is the HST portion. I don’t know about you but I think that is a pretty good deal. As all our bread is made fresh everyday and all our sandwiches are freshly prepared for our customers. Unfortunately we do only offer one variety of soup with our deal as that is the best way we can manage our costs. We at Loaf Bakery strive for producing quality products and providing customer satisfaction wherever we can and again I would like apologize we didn’t meet our own high standards with your visit.

Yours sincerely

The Loaf has thought of everything for a perfect kids night out: simple menu choices, mini veggie bowls and bread to start, a bag of toys for the younger kids, and crayons for the older kids. Beautiful presentation, knowledgeable and approachable staff. Food was excellent, Baked goods-excellent.

Based on a recommendation from our B&B host we went there this evening. They have moved to 641 2nd Ave in Fernie, BC into new upscale digs, very nice. We were early and the first ones eating there tonight but very soon the place got real busy and ordering our carrot cake desert (very yummy) took quite a while. We enjoyed a light meal of fish cakes and carrot and ginger soup and some white wine. A very nice place to eat. We will recommend it.

We arrived in Fernie without a clue as to where to eat. We came upon Loaf and it looked inviting. We could not have been happier to start our Thanksgiving weekend here! The waitresses were extremely knowledgable about the new menu and the kitchen staff were even joking with our children. Excellent food, service, and atmosphere. Well done!
