Description: The Loaf has been growing and evolving for seven years, from a start-up in a miner's cottage to a firm favourite in Fernie's Downtown core. Owners Phil & Claire Gadd have always designed The Loaf to be accessible and affordable, a neighbourhood restaurant where everyone is welcome and feels comfortable, no matter what the time of day. With excellent food, made from scratch on the premises daily. Now its time for some changes: updating the interior to make a more comfortable dining experience, extending the list of craft beers and offering more wines and liquor and creating an environment where the focus is on exceptional food, good company and the relaxed dining experience. "Our perfect wish for Fernie is a place with craft beers, a good solid wine list by the glass, pizzas, pasta, and some other nice mains, but nothing too fancy. And that's exactly what we're aiming to do at The Loaf."

“Maybe it will get better”

OK, went to this place the second day it opened at its new location. I ordered the top entree - steak. Now, this is just when the restaurant started so you would think that the chef would have down the process of cooking a steak and put in a little extra love. You would be wrong, the steak was sent back for being raw - yes raw. Seared that's it. Ridiculous for a steak that costs as much as it did. Here's another eye-raising tidbit about this place...it is a bakery and we asked for some bread and butter because we were starving and just in from a log day fishing. THEY CHARGE FOR THE BREAD. $1.50/slice. Anyone out there ever, in their life, remember being charged for bread at a restaurant? How about at a bakery no less? How about during its grand opening? Ridiculous and clueless place.

I regret that you had a bad experience when you came to eat at our restaurant and unfortunately didn't received your food how it was ordered.

We were overwhelmingly busy that weekend and we strive at all times at Loaf Bakery to offer the best service we possibly can. Unfortunately this time I can only apologise for the experience and invite you back to confirm that we have improved on your first impressions

Also I would like to confirm that 98% of our customers leave our bakery with only praise and compliments for the level of food and service they receive.

“Do not miss this in Fernie!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2012

We ate at the new location and will be going back each day of our visit! The food and service is outstanding, staff is very warm and informed, the fresh baked bread is to die for. Everything is made in house try the antipasto platter for a starter. Pizza had great flavour with their own homemade dough.

“Superb location and even better food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 5, 2012

New location but the same friendly atmosphere. If you are a regular the staff treat you like a friend. Superb pizzas and the best Caesar Salad I've ever had. A new menu is expanding on the old joint. A must if you visit Fernie.

“Horrible service and subpar overpriced food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 2, 2012

Staff were disorganized and full of excuses; soup tasted like water and sandwiches were tasteless. One friend had to wait 30 mins for a regular coffee & turkey sandwich. Best thing about this place was the awesome water with mint leaves!

I'm very sorry to hear that you had a disappointing experience in the bakery/restaurant. We have just moved to our new location on 2nd AVE that week, and have been overwhelmed with the shear number of people that came through the door over the weekend.

I am not using this as an excuse for poor service, we strive at Loaf Bakery to offer the best service and food that we possibly can. My staff had worked above and beyond what was required to get us open last Thursday and unfortunately you didn't have the experience that we like to try to give all of our customers.

If you decide to come back and give us another try please do make yourself known to either myself or the manager on duty and we will try and compensate for your last experience.

Once again I do apologise and we would like to see you again at Loaf Bakery.

“Real food and great bread”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2012

A very unassuming place - but for all the vehicles parked out front, we may have missed it! We were looking for a quick lunch spot that would feature 'real' ingredients. We found it here. The kids had cheese pizza on a thin crust (very good crust - it looked and tasted great). [Lots of different pizzas available.] The adults had homemade soup, pear/avocado salad and whole grain bread. So so so much better than the plethora of fast food places on the main street through Fernie. Brownies for the car and two loaves for home = one happy family. Will be back during ski season.
