We stumbled upon this restaurant in Gatineau, whilst looking for a different establishment - and what a find it was. I like vegetarian food, even though I am an omnivore, but sometimes feel that the fare is not sufficiently filling. At la Belle Verte the food is delicious, wholesome and filling.
We both tried different soups - and they were outstanding, flavourful, with hints of many different palate-pleasing spices. The soup comes with a house made cracker, which is really a large collection of different nutty grains held together with a cracker base and it's crunchiness sets of the smooth texture of the soup to perfection. Together they are very filling and a light eater might need no more. The crackers are for sale at the counter in packages for taking home, and you will want more than one package.
We each had different sandwiches, both delicious, served on toasted panini bread with great flavour. The sandwich is packed with fresh items and accompanied by a salad that might have been picked that very morning.
The ambiance is laid back; but that doesn't mean that the service is slack. An attentive waitperson matches the pace of the arrival of the next course with the mood of the diners - so it is a real option for a business lunch.
I enjoyed my food thoroughly and will definitely return to this pleasant oasis of sanity.
