“"Amazing location-super clean"”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2013

My family and I stayed here for a conference at a nearby location. Don't let the outside appearance fool you. The inside has been completely renovated. All of the staff; front desk, custodial, restaurant and housekeeping were exceptionally friendly, accommodating and were fully bilingual. The location allowed a pleasant walk all major attractions. Our room was very clean and tidy and we were quite comfortable for our two day stay. The view of the river and parliament buildings were spectacular, both day and night, and could not be beat. It is hard to imagine that another hotel could provide all of these features at such a reasonable rate.
When we visit the Ottawa-Gatineau area again, I know where we will be staying.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river side, on higher floors afford spectacular views.

Stayed here June 14th/2013 for our 44th wedding anniversary..Nice people at the front desk..Beautifull view of the city of Ottawa, the Parlement and the river..great location in front of the Jacques Cartier Park and close to museums, bike trails. Room was nice and bed was super comfortable...must agree that the bathroom was small but manageable.
Visited Gatineau Park, Domaine McKenzie King, Lake Meech within 20 min. drive from the Hotel.
I only wished that they would have offered me a room with a balcony but I'll request it next time.

I'm surprised that it has a higher rating because I didn't find it all that spectacular. It was "ok" my view was of neighbouring houses, not the river and my room was missing the inside curtains, the balcony was not safe for young children, IMO. The staff wasn't overly accommodating and the last night we were there, they booked about 50 tweens into the surrounding rooms. Not overly impressed, especially since we have a small child. The pool was not what I expected, but it was ok. I've been in worse, but for the price and location, I've also been in much better... (The Marriott Residence Inn-same room, layout was much better, cleaner, staff friendlier!)

Pro:
Lovely and helpful people at the front desk, at least to me
Renovated room - upper floor overlooking the river. Bathroom pretty cramped. Beautiful view of Parliament and the river. (however I saw other, less spacious rooms.)
Internet was fine in the room and elsewhere
Relatively good value

Con
- The pillows are very high and they had no alternatives to offer
- the service in the restaurant was abysmal at breakfast. I was ignored when I joined a table at which friends were already seated. Twice. I could have spoken up I know but was not going to eat there anyway so did not. Just observed. Their potatoes were not fully cooked and the toast was floppy and nasty. Odd as the breakfast we got at our conference was decent. People waiting up to an hour to get their breakfasts. I heard a number of folk vent at the front desk to no avail. The one server was slammed, but the hotel should have anticipated that with several tour groups and a conference things would get busy. We went around the corner (10 minute walk) to Bistro Vitalie (67 rue Victoria) and had a great swift meal.
-elevators slow and inexplicably one was were being used by staff and ws out of service at a particularly busy time.

To be aware: Charge of ~10$ for parking. You can park outside, or there is underground parking but you have to do a bit of a loop to get to it. No biggie.
There is a fitness room with three machines (stepper, treadmill and another.) Fine. Also a pool which I did not see.

In sum, this hotel is close to the Museum of Civilization (or whatever it has been called now), and within easy reach of Byward Market.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper room in the corner.

We stayed here in May 2013 when attending a conf, All of the "big" Ottawa hotels were booked as were all of the nicer airport hotels. This hotel was a "last resort" option. We were worried it was going to be awful.

We arrived very early in the day after a crack of dawn flight. We wanted to leave our bags with the front desk till check in time rather than lug them around, They checked us in right away (8am) with no extra charge. The rooms were renovated and very clean.

Internet was a bit spotty and our wait for a cab on 3 occasions was long (call early for a cab)

We also took a quick walk to Ottawa to the museums, and then a water taxi across the river. It was lovely.

We were pleased. The price of the hotel was low and so did not expect much.

One negative I would have been very upset with if I was in a hurry was the hot water. It was easily 10 mins before the shower ran hot. The front desk said to just let it run and it would get warm - it did and I had time so it was OK. In a hurry, the delay in hot water combined with the slow cab may have caused an issue so plan ahead time wise.

Its not the location to stay if you have to go anywhere other than downtown. Our cab ride to where we needed to go was not far in distance but took ages and was $$$. For anyone visiting downtown Ottawa and who doesn't mind walking - it's a great choice for the money.

Room Tip: Allow extra time for the shower to warm up and call for cabs early.

This hotel is our favorite for when we visit Ottawa. The price is good relative to downtown Ottawa but it is only minutes away. The hotel has undergone major renovations and upgrades. The staff at the front desk are all fantastic. Everyone speaks English and they all appreciated my very poor French. The restaurant is very good and so is the service. The only negative things are limited parking and that there were no safety bars in the shower. Overall, an excellent place to stay.

Room Tip: Chose a room facing the river. The view is wonderful.

Stayed one night at BW hotel enroute to Quebec city. Good location just across the river with easy access to Ottawa city and sights either by car or walking. Chose this hotel accommodation outside of city limits for a good nights sleep minus traffic noise. Splendid river view from upper floor.
Staff very willing, helpful and courteous. Restaurant has a good selection of breakfast menu. Parking fee is reasonable @ $10/ night. Very pleasant stay and would definitely return again to the BW Gatineau.

Room Tip: Lovely river view from upper floor.
