“Living up to the polite and friendly Canadian experience”
Reviewed October 22, 2008

Originally I had made reservations at the Westin Ottawa but when I arrived they were fully booked and moved me to the Four Points Gatineau instead. Very inconvenient, but in the Westin's defence they did comp my night here as well as paid for my parking which did make up for my trouble.

I want to say a lot of good things about the Four Points but all of it would surround their customer service. Upon check-in, I explained my situation to the front desk who after a call to the Westin understood and took care of me completely. Honestly, I was here only for the room given that this choice of hotel wasn't planned but I did check out the indoor pool (it's a bit small with really only enough comfortable play space for 1-2 families, and it closes at 10 pm) and restaurant for breakfast (typical American and continental breakfast, nothing special really). However, it's the people here who really excel and give you something to remember such as the front desk who remembered my name even when I forgot theirs and greeted me by name every time I walked past the lobby.

Like another reviewer said, the rooms are quite generic and typical. This isn't a bad thing, but this is why it's Four Points and not the Westin or Sheraton brands. The bed was comfy, the bathroom quite nice and internet was available via ethernet though I never tried it (I was told its free but I can't confirm this). The hotel is also located across from the Canadian Museum of Civilization (a great museum of Canadian history!) which is right across the river from Parliament. If you have a car it's really a quite convenient location to start from if you're visiting Ottawa.

I'd recommend the Four Points Gatineau for families, groups or if you're just looking for a simple, safe and very friendly place to stay. If TripAdvisor allowed it, I'd rate this hotel a 3.5 instead of the 3 I'm limited to.

I stayed twice, first in November 2007 and second at the end of March and beginning of April 2008. The experience was generic. The rooms were predictable. My first stay I drove and had a difficult time getting accurate directions from the front desk. The second stay I asked for a non-smoking room and my room smelled of smoke and I was able to get another room without any difficulty.

The building is modern and non-descript. It is connected to a complex that includes government buildings and an indoor shopping mall. More significant is that it is located across the street from the Canadian Museum of Civilization.

I made this booking for a friend of mine who was visiting Ottawa, and I was impressed with the Four Points. I made the reservations at home, and I went to the hotel before my friend's arrival to make sure the reservation was done properly and to check and see if the room is clean. I was actually very worried.
The front desk agent was incredibly friendly, and when I requested a room by the elevator, she did not hesitate to fulfill the request, and on top of it, she upgraded the room to the VIP floor. The only thing, is that I did not notice anything special about the room, but it was a thoughtful thing for her to do.
The surrounding area is not too fancy, but it is 5 minuted to downtown Ottawa. So, all in all, it was great value for a clean comfortable room and great friendly staff.

Booked at Sheraton.com using our company corporate rate, so got a rate of $103 for a basic room at this hotel. I'm a Starwood Preferred Gold guest so was upgraded right away to the 8th floor corner room on the SPG floor. As I had requested, I received a great view of the river and Ottawa. This hotel is less than a 5 min drive from downtown Ottawa, close to local Gatineau sites (including directly across the street from Museum of Civilization). Free parking on the street on weekends (otherwise hotel charges $10). In summer you can walk to Ottawa across the bridge in about 15 mins... in winter I would suggest a bus or driving.

The hotel itself is visibly on the older side but in good condition. Our room was perfectly clean and the bed was excellent... typical Four Points bedding collection. Other room furniture was older style but in fine condition... you can tell they're gradually replacing everything as we had new lamps sitting on old nightables... bathroom floor and shower looked original (late 70s or early 80s) but the counter was new (granite-style) and showerhead was new with very good water pressure. Nice amenities, towels.

Staff was extremely helpful with all of our requests, both checking in and out were easy.

Pool area was good for this class of hotel - water was warm in the pool, there's a lifeguard which is good for kids, and there is also a jacuzzi that we used and it was nice and warm. Hotel also has a gift shop and restaurant (which we didn't try).

We would return - it's about $40 cheaper than a similar accomodation on the other side of the river (at least on weekends) and you're sure to have a really comfortable bed and if you're lucky a nice view!

I'd recommend as long as you're not looking for anything overly trendy.

For those not familiar with Ottawa, it sites on the border of the province of Ontario seperated by the Ottawa river from the province of Quebec.

The Four Points Sheraton is physcially in the Province of Quebec, but is really an Ottawa Hotel.

I stay at this Hotel frequently for business (about 8 times so far this year) and have never had any issues.

This Hotel is usually a good value, and you can find rooms for as low as $105 on weekends, and even when rates at similiar hotels in Ottawa are high, I have never paid more then $140 a night.

This Hotel is right across the street from The Canadian Musuem of Civilization, which is one of the "must-sees" in Ottawa. Great place for familes, and by staying across the street you avoid parking at the musuem.

As a Four Points Hotel, it is pratical, but does feature a pool, room service, a small shop, and free internet access in your room.

Parking is $10 per night.

Some minor points. This hotel does have smoking floors, and I have found that you can sometimes smell smoke on non-smoking floors (if you ask to be moved it should not be a problem). Also, you can sometimes get a room with slightly dated furniture (but the beds are always great). Also, after dark there is not much going on in the area of the Hotel. You have to travel (either by car or by foot if you are up to it) to the Byward Market for some great places to eat, clubs, etc.

In the summer months, when it is easy to you can walk across the bridge into Ottawa in about 20 minutes. A drive across to Parliament Hill or the National Art Gallery takes about 5 minutes at most.

Overall a good value in Ottawa.

Stayed at this hotel for a week in April whilst attending meetings in Ottawa.

Hotel : Nice, Basic but Clean. Good location with easy access to bridge crossing to Ottawa.
Staff : Friendly and very eager to help (whether you speak French or not. No language barrier if you don't speak French)
Room: Clean, large in size, and well appointed. Good view of the canal / Parliament building.
Bathroom : Clean and well maintained.
Facilities : Nice pool. Scant in fitness equipment.
Restaurant : Didn't have the opportunity to try. Heard positive comments from others who patronized.
Parking : Outdoor - Easy access and no problem. $10/day.
Underground - AVOID.....Dusty, and not well lit. Driving lane is narrow and you pray that no vehicle is coming from opposite direction when you turn corners since you'll have no way to avoid a head-on collision. Parking spots are small. $10/day.

Overall, nice stay. Would come back.

I showed up early and staff were able to accommodate me. All staff were very friendly and helpful, and my room was nice, clean and spacious. The gym is fair, but the pool is quite nice. Very handy location for getting into downtown Ottawa. Internet worked well, and the food in the restaurant was actually decent! All in all, a good stay.
