We spent the day travelling up to Port Renfrew, celebrating my spouse's birthday (Diane). On the return to our hotel in Esquimalt, we missed the Point-no-point stop so continued on into Sooke looking for a seat and a meal! Markus' Wharfside caught my eye on a small sign placed on the corner of the Highway and Wharfside, we had to double back to the restaurant. We got a seating, despite not having made a reservation! Thank you!
Entrance is simple, yet elegant. The front yard is blooming with a herb garden and edible flower plants. The side has a vegetable patch which provided for the salad! We ordered the catch of the day set menu, and surprised ourselves by asking for a pairing with each course.
Like I said, the salad came from the side garden, the paring was a BC grown pinot gris, decadence was the rest of the evening. The main was the catch of the day (ling cod) paired with another BC grown pinot noir! By this time we knew we were in food heaven. The desert was a mini cheese cake and my spouse (Diane) got hers with a lit candle because I happended to mention a birthday celebration of a quiet kind!
Keep it up Markus, good food made with care always hits the spot! I receommend reservations in advance and many more visits from us!
