We had a great outdoor and hiking day out in this park which was a nice change to the vibrant city life we had experienced some days in Vancouver downtown. You get to see lush forests and awesome coastal views and great hiking trails on top - BC nature at its best!
We came across East Sooke Park by coincidence in the internet and are surprised that not more visitors to Victoria make it down there. It's just some 45 minutes outside Victoria by car and very easy to reach. It's a great park and above all - it's FREE! Probably nobody promotes this as there is no commercial interest behind it...
In the park we did a round-trip starting at Aylard Farm along the Coast Trail to Beechey Head and then headed back inwards to our starting point. This took us some 4 hours including quite a few stops for taking pictures plus a 1 hour lunch break atop the Beechey Head. The views you get to see along the coast are just awesome. Don't let yourself put off by the description of the coastal trail in the internet - that's where you want to go. First, it's there where you get these great views, second, that's the interesting and more 'challenging' trail. Having said that, the trail is not too tough, you need hiking shoes or sturdy sneakers and if you go hiking from time to time and are in normal physical shape (like us) you'll be fine. The interior routes are less fun as quite plain and at times almost gravel paths which is not what you come out here for.
Quite good info on the park you'll find on the following website, including a very useful map to download, which was all we had to find our way around.
