“Mid day service a bust!”
Reviewed August 22, 2012

The location of this restaurant is perfect, nice and quiet on the water. Too bad the service was equally quiet. We ended up waiting for requested items far longer than necessary for the number of tables occupied. The extra salsa we requested was never brought out. One of our dishes was too salty and inedible, but the server didn't ask us how the food was, even when she brought us fresh drinks! We had to track her down and tell her.

The food was a mixed bag. We had nachos and a mussels/sausages dish. The nachos had sat too long out of the oven after being cooked, and the mussels were too salty!

A poor showing.

“Excellent Combination of Food, Scenic Views & Service!”
Reviewed August 20, 2012

I have a saying: You can have great food or views or service or price. . . but finding more than 2 of the 4 options is NOT an option. The Stickleback has proved me wrong!

We both ordered the Salmon burger for lunch, but it was was not at burger at all. . . it was much BETTER! Picture a large filet of sparkeling fresh, well seasoned grilled Salmon on a yummy bakery bun with aioli and chutney in addition to the fresh, crisp lettuce and tomato. I had a large delicious side salad with crunchy fresh greens and the house blackberry dressing. . . YUM! My hubby had the fries, and they actually cooked them crispy. . . just the way he likes them.

We enjoyed Stickleback beers along with our meal on the terrace and relaxed into the lovely views over a small cove, with the Olympic mountains as a back drop.

Our service was friendly and welcoming but also professional and efficient. . . a great combination! AND, our check was quite reasonable. We highly recommend this great restaurant!

“Awful!”
Reviewed August 17, 2012 via mobile

Started badly, hostess tried to seat us in the furthest corner even though the main area was empty,i had to ask to be in front of the window!Fish stick starter was lovely, main came without sides stated on the menu, had to ask twice and only one of us got the side, chicken salad came with no chicken,no-one came to check meal was ok so short of going to the kitchen & asking for the chicken direct it wasn't happening, i actually started thinking i had read the menu wrong and i wasn't supposed to have chicken.finally our server came and we shared and she confirmed i should have had chicken, we were both supposed to have sides and she was very apologetic.it was a shame as this was our last night in sooke and the worst service/meal.

Delicious food, delightful setting! The best of Sooke! (We enjoyed the seafood chowder--wow! a Thai prawn curry, and more...) Fine service, great decor... what more would you want?

“Finally an awesome restaurant at this location!”
Reviewed August 5, 2012

I have been trying this restaurant everytime it changes hands, names, etc. Finally, finally, this restaurant is worth returning to. It was really, really good. The menu names are cute and the food is wonderful. The view has always been fabulous, especially on a sunny, calm day like yesterday.

We cycled from Metchosin along the Galloping Goose Trail, had lunch and cycled back. We saw many kayakers and cyclists enjoying a break at this fine establishment after getting some exercise.

I will come back many more times now that this restaurant not only has one of the most scenic locations in all of Sooke, but a wonderful menu, great service and excellent cuisine.
