“Sunday brunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 25, 2013

Came out for our second Sunday brunch with an Xmas gift voucher. Lovely location. Staff friendly. Food excellent. House salad is great. Chocolate mousse cake/ice cream terrific for sharing. Coffee best I've ever had in a restaurant. Love the unrefined Demerara sugar! Relaxing +++. Note the brunch is not a buffet, rather menu items which change regularly according to availability. Definitely worth as visit or 2 or 3.

This is the place to be on Vancouver Island. We spent a weekend away on a "work retreat". It was both relaxing & energizing. Waterfront location, decor, food (local grown) and service were all 10/10. I wish it was closer to the Mainland. Expensive but well worth it........

It lived up to the hype even though it was very spendy$$$$, the food and accomodations were one of a kind, service was warm and personable, not too snooty, a little bit but not too bad. Only negatives would be the sommelier dude iin the dining room talked down to us the entire time, had him both nights, not sure why he is "that" much in front of the house if you know what I mean. Other little nit pick is the condition of the property, def needs some TLC here and there.

Room Tip: Top floor all the way and for crying out loud, get a room with an outside tub, you will probably onl...

We spent a nice romantic evening at the Sooke Harbour House last year and it was a wonderful experience. Tucked away in a nice quiet romantic spot, it's a great getaway. The staff was good, the view of the water from our room was spectacular. We sat in the hot tub and drank wine while watching the boats and wildlife go by.

It looks a little run down, and the decore is cheesy and dated, but that's all part of the charm. We will go back if we're ever in the area again.

Yes, it's absolutely great, and we've enjoyed all of our visits immensely. We endorse every wonderful thing that other reviewers have said about the location and the decor and the food and the philosophy. But since there's always room for improvement...
* Because the SHH is so remote, we tend to eat all of our breakfasts and dinners here when we're staying. The breakfast selection is exactly the same from one day to the next, however, and the very small prix-fixe dinner menu might only have one appetizer and one main course change from night to night. A little more variety would be nice.
* While the chairs in the dining room are hand made and look lovely, I never find them comfortable.
* It would have been awkward to attempt to explain to the nice young person helping at the front desk why an older couple would dislike being repeatedly addressed as "you guys", so we didn't try.
* It's worrisome seeing the amount of moss on the roof.

Stayed here for our second time. Always romantic decadent and relaxing. Can't wait to return! The meal was excellent although it was an epic three hour dinner. We had a beach house king room and it was very private and beautiful.

I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to visit Sooke Harbour House this January. I had heard it mentioned many times, and was aware of its status on the Conde Nast Gold list, and I expected it to be charming, but it was something very different.
Frederique the co-owner and artistic director is part designer and part curator. Every room is different and features literally dozens of original paintings, sculptures and crafts. Everywhere you look, both inside and out, their is a unique objet d'art that catches the eye. There is no clutter, simply good design that is part cozy, part whimsy, and wholly West Coast.
I stay in dozens of hotels each year, and some are nicer than others, but this is the first that I feel has been an experience. Each unique corner of the library, or lofted bedroom, or oceanview window encourages contemplation. Staying at the Sooke Harbour House is a more personal experience than staying at a regular luxury hotel. It begs you to slow down, to read a book or spend an hour looking at the ocean in the rain or have a conversation.
It's not inexpensive to stay there, but sometimes after a getaway, I feel a little empty, and a little poorer heading back home, but this time I felt rested, and full.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with an outdoor soaker tub. There is nothing more magical than sitting in a bubble ba...
