“Girls Weekend”
Reviewed February 19, 2013

We recently stayed at Orveas for our 8th annual girls weekend. It is our 7th trip to Orveas, and we have always had a great experience. When we arrive Friday afternoon/evening it is nice to come “home” to a clean, fresh abode and a wood fire that’s all ready to go. We find the kitchen well stocked with milk, juice and condiments and bring plenty of our own groceries for a relaxing stay-in weekend. We love having the full kitchen to prepare meals. We take advantage of the hot tub while we are there, and understand there is a lovely beach for walking, however, we have been unable to collect enough energy to make the 5 minute trek as we are too comfortable lounging in the living room, reading and chatting. Maybe next year we’ll make it down there. There are three of us and we are quite comfortable in the Captain’s Quarters, there are enough beds to go around and we never run out of hot water. One drawback is that the tap water is undrinkable, but there is bottled water readily available.

We also have pedicures at the local spa (Le Sooke Spa) on our Saturday afternoons, which is a perfect addition to our girls weekend.

We would highly recommend Orveas for travellers.

Room Tip: Captain's Quarters is large with a beautiful view of the water, and close to the hot tub.

We stayed in the Port Cottage for three nights. Ron and June have done a great job furnishing the cottage and supplying almost everything you need to make for a comfortable stay. The cottage was spotlessly clean and well maintained. The room has its own baseboard heaters and a gas fire for extra heat and ambiance. There is a walk-in shower with lots of hot water. Two bedside lamps, off the wall, so you can actually read in bed. TV with good supply of DVDs. Don't think you get cable. The fridge had milk, cream, sauces, syrup. Also supplied was ample coffee, tea and seasonings. You have to use the supplied drinking water as they collect water off the cliff and pump it back up to a holding tank for use in the showers, toliet, kitchen. Lots of reading material supplied. We loved having our own hot tub just outside the door and at 105 degrees F it was the ideal temperature with a magnificant view of the sea and passing ships. There is adequate natural screening between Port and Starboard cottages and they are far enough apart as not to be a problem. We met friends who were staying at the Captain's and First Mate Cabins (small world) and were invited to look around their cottages. Magnificant. big, roomy and very comfortable for a family or group of friends. For us - too much space for just a romantic weekend - we prefered Port Cottage. Things to do: walk down the cliff to their beach - 10 minutes and recommended you use one of their supplied walking sticks. There is a 3.4 Km CRD forest walk about 15 minutes walk away with a short side trip to visit the now unused lighthouse (through walkers gate (not locked) and down the vehicle road). All-in-all a relaxing place to stay. Probably better in the summer when you can make more use of the garden and games supplied - horse shoes, volleyball, badmington. Recommended - yes.

Room Tip: Port and Starboard are the same design and equally good views. No difference between them. Captain...

We discovered Orveas Bay a couple years ago and have stayed in the Port Cottage on each visit since. It's become our home away from home. We can say without hesitation, this is one of the most romantic getaways we've ever visited. Ron and June provide everything we need to feel comfortable, cozy and pampered. Romantic dinners on the patio, your own private hot tub with a glass of wine, overlooking the ocean, the gardens, and thoughtfulness to each guests' privacy all add up to an incredibly relaxing stay each time we visit. We're very lucky to live a close drive to Orveas Bay, and are always amazed at how the world just drops away when we pull up to the cottage. We look forward to many years of visiting and creating memories. Thank you to Ron and June for the vision and hard work you put into creating a wonderful place to breathe and relax.

My husband and I stayed in Port Cottage mid September during our trip of the Northwest Pacific area. After 10 days of different hotels each night our three night stay there was just what was needed.

We arrived in the dark but our GPS (brought from the UK) got us right to the door and Ron was out to greet us just as soon as he heard the car.

The cottage had been filled with homely touches and, more importantly, contained everything we needed for our stay. As advised on the website we had stocked up with groceries in Sooke before we arrived.

Our stay at Orveas Bay Resort, was exactly what I had hoped for: a tranquil break from our touring schedule in beautiful, peaceful surroundings. Sitting in the hot tub under a very starry sky was a treat. Both Ron and June were very friendly and helpful.

I would certainly recommend Orveas Bay Resort for anyone wanting to explore the area or just to 'get away from all'. We loved our time there.

Stayed in First Mates cabin for 3 nights in September. The accomodations were very comfortable and there was everything we needed for great breakfasts. We really appreciated the gas fireplace and cozy sitting room. The view from the front deck is incredible! We didn't know about the hot tub but we sure enjoyed it at the end of long days walking. What a view from the gazebo at night accross the Juan de Fuca strait with the ships travelling along fully lit up.
Everything was first class!

Room Tip: There is only one bathroom in the First Mates Cottage but we managed OK with four of us.

Stayed in the First Mates cabin for three nights in September. We were very impressed right from the time we drove up. Our accomadations were very comfortable and unique to say the least. Everything for a nice breakfast was supplied. We stopped in nearby Sooke to buy groceries for other meals. The barbeque was very nice.
This is a remote beautiful area and the views from the deck are outstanding.
There is free Wi-Fi, but not cell phone service in the area.
All in all I would highly recommend this resort.

Everything at Orveas Bay was just about perfect. The cabins were filled with all kinds of conveniences and cozy items that made it feel like we hadn't even left home (except for leaving all of our stress behind of course). June & Ron are incredible hosts and think of just about everything to make a vacation complete. As Washingtonians, we especially loved the view of our home state across the straits of Juan de Fuca in the form of the stunning Olympic Mountains. i can't imagine going anywhere else in Canada for a break from all the craziness of city living! I would recommend Orveas Bay to anyone who wanted to get away from it all.
