“Worth the price (see pros and cons below)”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 21, 2012

I stayed at the Auberge du Vieux Foyer this past weekend. (17-19 August, 2012). We were 2 adults, left the kids at home. We had the Comfort Plus room.

The Auberge is located off the beaten path in a very quiet wooden mountain-side location. There were no bugs at all!

There is a small ''pond-like'' lake at the Auberge which you can putter around in with their two peddle boats. The pool and spa are heated and extremely clean and well-maintained. There is also a sauna and relaxation room. There is an on-site spa which offers massages on reservation. The Auberge restaurant is excellent. The breakfast is only $9.95 a person and well worth it. There is a buffet and table service. You get both for that low price.

The supper menu table-d'hote will run you between $31 and $50 dollars/person. It is a four-course meal and excellent. The Auberge has won awards for their fine dinning which they proudly display on the rstaurant entrance walls.

Pros: Hotel staff friendly and accomodating. Room clean and new (Comfort plus room). Spa amazing! especially at night with all the stars....and there is never anybody in it. Pool and Spa heated. Restaurant well worth the money. Nice bar for après-ski drinks if you're going in the winter.

Cons: No iron in room. Only two ironing-boards and irons per floor available at the end of the hall. No pay-per view movies in room. The WI-FI service is free, but way too weak and only works in the lobby. Because of the mountains, your cell phone service barely works and shoots in and out.

In the end, we would stay there again and plan to. Perfect for romantic weekends.

Room Tip: Go for a comfort plus room or more.

A few minutes walk from town, this charming hotel offers great value for the money. The food is good, the rooms are impeccably clean. You can relax by the pool, sauna, hot tub... The hotel is 2 k from the famous Parc lineraire du Petit train du nord, a remarquable bike path that runs from Mont-Laurier to Montreal using an old railroad through the forrest... It becomes an equally stunning cross-country skiing path in the winter. The hotel offers free bikes. staff is friendly and relax. If you enjoy formal service for dinner, go somewhere else. Val-David is one of my favorite vacation place and Auberge du Vieux-Foyer, a nice place to stay while being there.

Walk to to the centre of town in two minutes.
drive to depanneur and larger stores in three minutes.
good restaurants -- including excellent Zebre .
Hotel has a four season business.
very pleasant very well appointed facilities--including, spas
pools restaurants free bike loans ( about dozen available) .
Auberge .. has excellent conference facilities.
Great management very attentive. Rooms are more Euro-size
but very clean and comfortable and with fireplace.
Auberge du vieux is quite large but it never seemed crowded.
Drive to Tremblant in 15 minutes. to the Intrawest 'Village'.
The extra dollars you save spend them on an extra hiking/ski day or
at a really good restaurant.....lots in the area.
Hi season low season rates are almost the same and very reasonable.,
Anglophone guests fee welcome even with a modicum of
high school French

we went with a groupon:

they are very flexible on when you arrive...if you come early and the room is not ready, enjoy a relaxing time in the pool, sauna, hot tub, have a few drinks of relax by the little lake. It was pieceful and very pleasent. The other guests at the hotel were quite pleasent and it was an overall good experiance. The bathroom was huge. Massage therapist was pretty good. Everything goes to your bill and paid at the end of stay. We had the four course meal and it was hugeeeee!!!! So watch....may want to split it. Also, the breakfast in the morning is not just what is put out, you get another meal on top of that.

Great value...suggest staying there if you want to relax and have no worries :)

Room Tip: if ask for a two bed room...make sure you get it....the beds do split into two APPARENTLY (found out...

We came here for a quick getaway and the hotel surpassed most of our expectations! The 4-course dinner was exceptional: every course was better than the last, the portions were good and everything was perfectly cooked and seasoned. Very good wine selection as well. Breakfast was also wonderful: the restaurant provides a buffet as well as table service (for eggs, pancakes, etc) so you get the best of both worlds. The facilities - pool, sauna, hot tub, were all new (or recently renovated), large and very clean.

The only negative were the rooms themselves: small and a bit outdated, they are definitely in need of some renovations. The rooms were clean, however, and the beds comfortable. Also, we were charged $10 to rent two towels to use the pool, when the night before we were told it was possible to borrow towels without charge. So if you plan to use the pool, bring your own beach towels!

The area itself is beautiful: the hotel is only a few minutes drive from a provincial park with many kms of hiking trails and rock climbing. The town is charming and well worth a visit.

A fair hotel. Very nice, simple, comfy, in a quiet location. We booked for one night with the 'spontaenous package' which includes stay, dinner, breakfast, and access to the spa. The room (comfort plus) was clean, the mattress was comfortable. It got a little hot in the room during the night. We enjoyed the restaurant; average fine dining, good brunch. The The pool and spa are a great asset. Overall, very nice!
