“Food Was Excellent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2008

My husband and I are strict vegetarian, and coming to the lodge, we were prepared for the worst, or usual, as far as food was concerned. In the past we have not found places to be accomodating. At the Lodge, however, we found a variety of suitable options to suit our dietary needs that were both delicious and filling. We were very surprised and delighted, and will recommend Naturally Superior Adventures to all our friends and family! Thanks guys!

Rock Island Lodge is located directly on Lake Superior, with incredilble views in all directions. It has four modern rooms with individual bathrooms, a common area, and comes with breakfast included. Lunches and dinners may be arranged. But really, this place is a find. The same owners run canoe and kayak trips, a school for kayaking and canoeing, and rent both type of boats.

So the place tends to draw people into adventure water sports. But we were not, and felt completely at home and the hospitality just naturally flowed.

The lodge is located where the Michipicoten River flows into Lake Superior. Across from it is Michipicoten Provincial Park with a mile of pristine beach called "Driftwood Beach". Around the corner, almost literally, is a part of the Voyager Trail and Silver Falls. Down the road a mile is a place called " Sandy Beach" which is self explanatory except you cannot imagine the beauty of the place.

The lodge is friendly, comfortable, quiet, and very affordable. It has no phones or tv sets, but encourages conversation among its guests, should the guest wish it. If not, solitude is easily accesible on the deck, on the rocks, on their private beach, on a boat. Fishing is possible from the rocks.

This is not a place for small children, but is a place for romantic adventure seeking, not formal or demanding adults. It is a well kept secret, that is one of those "finds" and is way better than anything else found in Wawa, assuming that this is your kind of place. If you are attracted to views, solitude, friendliness, hospitality and can manage a couple of mile drive off the beaten path, this place is for you. My wife and I loved it.
