The lodge is set in a picture perfect location. Nestled on the rocks where Michipicoten River and Lake Superior meet. The rooms are modestly decorated but comfortable. The staff are friendly and very helpful and the lodge offers a large selection of canoes and kayaks to rent from.

Room Tip: There aren't many rooms so book early.

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at the lodge and it was the best! We've been married for four years and this summer, we are thinking of coming back.

So many wonderful memories of kayaking down the river, seeing a black baby bear, eagles...such tranquility.

We bought a camera in Wawa and captured some of the most beautiful photos. I've recently taken up water coloring again and have found inspiration from these photos.

It's not a fancy building, but it's cozy and clean. The grounds are beautiful and the staff are great. No complaints here. I can't wait to return:)

A small lodge, located on a small peninnsula jutting out into lake Superior. The location is hard to beat.
The room was basic, but clean and comfortable, and the window only meters to the water. Do not arrive expecting a four-star resort...it's not. But the location is pure five-star. (and really, the lodge is quite cozy, just not fancy) The staff are very laid back, but they do know what they're doing, and will look after you if you give them a chance. Lots' of kayaks and canoes just waiting for you. If you're strictly into the building itself, and don't care where you are, then maybe you'll "walk-in & walk-out". Otherwise, grab a lawnchair and a glass of wine (BYO) and watch the sun go down, surounded by Lake Superior. It would be hard to find a better location. A great find, we return whenever we can.

don't kid yourself this place is a bit rustic. it;s a base for tripping and adventures, on the edge of a wild lake up north, not a hotel or luxury joint,. just relax, and adore the views!!!!!
\ aree kitchen can be used to cook your own meals as can the bbq, but neither are the cleanest just very convenient. we were treated very well on our day paddle with our guide. we also took a one way trip down the local river but i wished they hadn't left us to get into boats ourselves: the water was moving right along and i got quite spooked. after my tears and resignation (we'd received essentially no advice on paddling the long series of what turned out to be very small rapids) i enjoyed the leisurely paddle as the mighty michipicoten river took us on past eagle after eagle and jumping salmon. truly a spectacular memory.
initially we were told no meals were availalble (even though website says there are) but there is in fact a cook, sometimes. or go to kinniwabi pines for truly good euro/ausian food but slow friendly service. wawa had surprisingly good groceries or at least , they surprised this city slicker .

I stayed at Rock Island Lodge in early October.
I was impressed with the lodge in every way - lovely beds with soft comforters; beautiful grounds; a simple and friendly breakfast by the fire place.
Best of all was the wooden deck and chairs next to the water - I stayed up well into the night to view the amazing stars and listen to the waves.
And I appreciated the lack of TV noise.
I have made a promise to myself to return for a full week next year.
