“Nice Stay”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2013

Stayed here 4 nights with work. They charged $84.00 per night.

I've stayed here a few times over the years. This is definitely an acceptable choice for Wawa, although I haven't tried any other hotels in Wawa yet.

The room was clean and reasonably spacious (2 double beds). All was fine in the bathroom, good water pressure, although they had the combined fan/light on one switch, which is a pet peeve of mine (I don't necessarily need a noisy bathroom fan running every time I use the bathroom!). There was a flat screen TV in the room. The heat was a below-the-window unit with dial heat setting, but I was able to adjust the temperature fairly quickly to a satisfactory setting. There was Wifi, but it wasn't working very well on my laptop. The lobby area is quite nice, with very clean lobby bathrooms. The restaurant and bar are both quite big and both were quite good, although it soumded like they would be closed for a while as someone else took over running the restaurant and bar. All in all a nice stay and reasonably priced, so I will be back.

I'll start by saying that I would never, ever stay in any type of motel, but unfortunately there is literally NOTHING between Sault St.Marie and Thunder Bay that exceeds a 1 star.

I checked in to the horrifying room price of 114.00 for the night. It was 1:00am and travelling with children, it was too late to go anywhere else. I could barely hear my room rate from the front desk person due to the noise in the bar, yelling, swearing, etc.

Room: You drive up and park at your door. Typical motel style. The room is dated, smelly, and the carpet has some sort of sticky film on it. There are ripped up rags in case you need them for your quad or snowmobile apparently... there's also matching ones that are labelled for make up removal. The white ones don't have labelled uses, so I guess you can use your imagination.

There was a ridiculously noisy mini fridge and a coffee maker, circa 1843. It made 1.5 cups of coffee and the coffee wasn't very good. I had creamer in my little travel cooler to mask the taste of the coffee/coffee maker.

My favourite part was the trucker population staring at us as we packed our car and left, laughing to stop ourselves from crying.

The person in front of me at checkout had a total room charge of 78.00. Mine was over 120.00.

Room Tip: Sleep in vehicle or ditch.

This was a decent sleep but nothing special. No extras - no breakfast, no pool, nothing but the room which isn't the best when you are traveling with children. The room was a good size and clean, the view from a room at the back is nice in the morning. The staff was solid as well. The price was OK but without breakfast or any extras it isn't anything special. For Wawa its OK, but if you can stay at Sault Ste Marie I'd advise that instead.

We picked this motel as it seemed to be the best of all the motels in the general area, and were told by 2 other business men from Toronto that we met at the gas station that it was the best. Rooms were very clean and were decorated in a Victorian style which was a bit unexpected. We had driven from Toronto area, so were very tired, and fell asleep immediately despite the somewhat hard older queen bed springs. Left early morning and did not eat at the attached restaurant so cannot comment.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back on the right were quiet and provided truck/trailer parking.

Stayed here September 2 and 3 2013. Why stay at an ordinary motel when you could stay here- big comfortable log cabin room with vaulted ceiling and back door to wooded area - ideal set up for us traveling with our (quiet and well behaved) dog. The log cabin units are down in the back of the property behind a strip of more conventional looking units. We were told that only the log cabin units were pet friendly but they would have been our choice anyway.

We stayed in one of the log cabins and were happy with the rooms. They were clean and had nice rooms. One drawback is that the walls to the bedrooms only went up 3/4 of the way to the ceiling. So while you would not see anything, sounds did travel from the living room. Benefit to parents wanting to hear young children, but not to people wanting more privacy.

We stayed there the 29th of August, 2013. There are quite a few motels in Wawa, especially for the size of it. There are 5 on the main street alone plus several on highway 17 just outside of town. We had been in Wawa in 2009 and stayed at a different hotel that was the best of the others in town (as this one was full) This motel is much better than any of the others. We had room 150 in the main building and it has an outside door to park at and another door to the inside corridor so that you can walk to the restaurant/lounge called the Cicada Dining Room & Lounge without going outside. The room was a decent size with a king bed, frig, coffee maker, 2 night tables, and a decent bathroom. They supply rags in the room for people to wipe their bikes and snowmachines off, They supply 1 brown face cloth so woman will wipe makeoff off with it (never seen that before), but that saves their white facecloth. I found the woman at the front desk very nice and she gave us a senior discount. In the morning the lady (another one) was quite nice too. The building has a goose on it roof also. The restaurant is attractive inside and the waitress was very friendly. My meal was good, but my husband's fish was not.
The lady at the front desk said the lease on the restaurant was up the end of Sept so it is an
unknown fact at this moment.

Room Tip: We like the room at the end as you only had a room on one side, but we found it very quiet.
