Greasy Halibut, small portions and very expensive for what you get. Will never return to this place again. was recommended by a local when I was looking for Fish and chips.

I had a friend coming to visit who is into seafood and enjoying a good meal. Unfortunately, his meal today went far beyond good and was rapidly approaching excellence. Unfortunate only in that he is from Alberta and cannot visit as often as he would like.

The clam chowder was, in his words, the best he had ever eaten, and the fish and chips were a joyous repast that had him ordering more [it was all you could eat] but stopping prior to being over filled inasmuch as he had to return to Victoria and the drive ...

Although I cannot eat fish or seafood, I was able to choose from among three or four other items, granted limited but considering the overall theme of the SEAFOOD restaurant, the selection was varied and had appeal to this lover of beef. I had the meatballs [new on the menu] which were extremely tasty.

The atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic. When you consider that there are many who want nothing but shine and glitz, it was refreshing to enter an establishment that has a long history and a decor to match. Considering the changes being enforced by short-sighted town administrators and provincial legislators, the maintenance of the establishment in old time decor made the experience a warm and most comfortable one.

A great experience which will be repeated soon.

Our dinner favourites? The Butternut Squash Soup (on the winter menu) - a delicately spiced bowl of comfort food that we're still raving about. My personal favourite ... the Thai Chili Prawns - perfectly cooked with just the right amount of heat and a hint of sweetness. We both gave the Barbeque Ribs high marks for fall-off-the-bone yumminess, and we loved the sweet grande finale of Pavlova for dessert. Owner and Chef Phil has accomplished the ‘art of the meringue’ and his Pavlova offers the perfect crunch with every bite. Topped with a variety of fresh fruit, it’s a dish that sparkles with great taste and personality.

On previous visits ... I've enjoyed the fish & chips. The servings are HUGE, so order one piece vs two if you have a small appetite. I also recommend Phil's Beef Stew ... especially on cold winter days/evenings. The Pavlova is a great dessert, but so is the Sticky Toffee Pie. Although the 'pie' is not house-made, it's very good quality and will certainly satisfy even the most discerning sweet tooth. Take note though ... it's VERY sweet ... deliciously sweet ;-)

Dropped in for lunch with a business associate. I sampled the Cioppino, which, if you haven't tried it, is something like a bouillabaisse. A big bowl was full of clams, mussels, prawns and halibut (I may have missed something) and everything was very fresh and tasty to the extreme. I understand the fish and chips are the featured dish here but the menu has lots of other excellent choices. Friendly service and the atmosphere is very much "Olde English". Well worth a visit.

I went to Fish Tales for an impromptu lunch with some contacts of mine. I must say, I was VERY impressed. The service was very friendly, and the atmosphere was theme appropriate (think English cottage).

The cannelloni was delicious (so much seafood), and the Pavlova was UNBELIEVEABLE. So light, and wonderful - I will be ordering this every time I come to fish tales.

You must try it!

PS - The fish and chips are also fantastic, as are many of the other menu items.
