“best place on the water”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

My husband and I and an other couple stayed here for two nights recently and loved it! The location is just perfect, being right on the water and so close to everything. Our rooms were huge with king beds, comfy chairs, nice bathroom, and great deck! Breakfast was very good, but somewhat simple. The innkeepers were very nice, though they were just filling in for the owners so they didn't seem all that interested in telling us about the city.

Our room was beautifully-decorated and immaculate. The view was amazing. Our part of the deck overlooked the harbor so we were able to watch and marvel at the tides. Breakfast was delicious. A wonderful place with gracious innkeepers.

We stayed in Room 5 which was a great room particularly enjoyed the deck which overlooks the harbor. Great place to spend some time reading, drinking wine, or just sitting. Room was very large and very clean and nicely furnished. Close to places in the downtown. Breakfast was good and hosts were nice. House is close to downtown attractions and whale sightseeing trips.

Room Tip: One with a back deck overlooking the harbor.

The location is excellent, waterfront and facing on the main street surrounded by galleries and shops and restaurants, but the inn itself is very relaxing and quiet. We stayed 2 nights in mid July.
The ambience is in keeping with the natural surroundings and historical nature of the area. Many well chosen antiques, interesting artwork, flowers and grasses everywhere, but nothing fussy or overdone.
We stayed in room 2 which had a balcony with comfortable seating overlooking the water. Everything was exceptionally clean. The bed was huge with quality linens. The bathroom had a large shower and nice toiletries There was a sofa, art books, wine glasses with menu for the oyster bar, internet access, large wall mounted TV.and a lovely antique wardrobe housing spa quality robes. Beautiful!!
My husband has Alzheimers and I was concerned that the breakfast room might be too confusing for him. Our hosts graciously offered to serve us breakfast privately in the upper suite! However, when I inspected the breakfast room, I declined the very kind offer because everything was so calm and low key. The breakfast was excellent, and my husband enjoyed every minute. "'mmm.Good." is what he kept saying.
You will be well taken care of here. The hospitality is superb. This Inn is charming.

Room Tip: Check out the photos on the net to choose a room. Rooms 2 and 3 have a balcony as do the suites on t...

I stayed at the Treadwell Inn for two nights in late May. My large room faced the harbor at the back of the inn and had a door to the balcony. I enjoyed sitting on the deck chairs outside, or on the comfortable sofa in my room, while planning the next part of my travels. The decor of the room was also to my taste, with warm wood pieces, a king bed with duvet, a soft carpet, and the comfy sofa, and colors of blues and whites, and light moss green-gray. It was a room I wanted to spend time in. The bathroom was a well-appointed 3-piece (large shower, no bathtub), just big enough. The inn's dining room / common room was elegant and breakfast was well done.

Room Tip: My room was at the back of the house, left hand side, and I benefited from the lower rates in May (n...

The Treadwell Inn – St. Andrews New Brunswick

In a lovely town in a beautiful corner of the world is a traditional older home converted into a B&B that provided us with rest, relaxation, and a terrific view of the local harbor. Conveniently located on a corner of the main street in town from which you can easily walk to “everything”, The Treadwell Inn was pleasing to the eye inside and out and offers a harbor view unsurpassed in town.

Our first-floor room was spacious, well-appointed, and very quiet despite being near the kitchen (separated by a hallway that was closed off on both sides by substantial doors). The room’s furnishings were quietly elegant and done “to the last detail” that makes a stay enjoyable: two suitcase stands, plenty of hangers (including pants hangers), a nightlight, flat bathroom surfaces to hold a doppkit,— those little amenities that make a stay easy and convenient.

A large screened slider opened to a porch with two Adirondack chairs plus a small table with two chairs. From there (as well as from our bed) we could view the harbor filled with boats, a sizeable island, and the coast of Maine in the distance. The backyard gardens were full of blooms, and the row of Adirondack chairs of all colors set up at harborside for reading and water-viewing provided an extremely pleasant and eye-catching frame for sitting on our deck and watching the enormous tidal ebb-and-flow (about 20 feet while we were there).

St. Andrews is a delightful small town (1800 residents I read somewhere) with plenty of interesting shops and several enjoyable restaurants. We visited nearby Minister’s Island, accessible by car at low tide over a gravel causeway that is submerged at mid-to-high tides, which is the location of the summer “cottage”, bathhouse and barn buildings of a former owner of the Canadian railroad. We also toured Kingsbrae Gardens—this is a major presentation of all things growing plus some interesting sculpture. We had two extremely satisfying dinners: on the outside deck of The Gables and on the back deck of The Teahouse at Digby Reef—both overlooking the water. Food was first-rate at both establishments.

The Treadwell Inn breakfast fare was simple and satisfying: juice, cereals, toast, bacon and eggs cooked-to-order by Jay, a most gracious, interesting and helpful host who was helping owners Gerry and Annette this season. Having owned and operated his own inn, Jay is certainly an asset to any operation and when we return to The Treadwell Inn we hope to see him again—if not hosting us, then providing his savior-faire to some other local business.
