“Super experience”
Reviewed August 28, 2013

We feel we were recommended by your review to go there and we were not disappointed. Best service with lots of attention, yammy food (lobster cointreau & salmon), in great presentation. Thank you Melanie for your service and making this a wonderful experience. We loved it so much that we return twice for pizza, also one of the best we had in years.

“A real disappointment!”
Reviewed August 28, 2013 via mobile

We went here on recommendations. The service was terrible! All the surrounding French speaking tables were served before we were, even though we arrives first and attempted to speak French. We ordered the seafood chowder and the seaweed soup. The chowder was cold in spots. We both ordered scallops, which took over an hour to get to us, even though another table ordered the same thing and they were finished before we even got ours. Once our meal finally arrived, the scallops were only partially cooked and most everything else was warm at best. Needless to say, we left at that point!

“Upstairs Downstairs”
Reviewed August 17, 2013

The story of La Maison-Pecheur is truly a tale of two restaurants - both compelling in their own way.

The downstairs Cafe de l'Atlantique is as cozy and comfortable as the upstairs is classic.. Food and service in both was top notch and the staff was efficient and welcoming.

To have been perfect, it would would have had to offer a clear vista of the Rock but that was mere feet away as you walked off the effects of a sumptuous dessert.

“Cafe de l'Atlantique - bistro de la Maison du Pêcheur”
Reviewed August 16, 2013

Tried to get a table at Maison du Pecheur on a Thursday night during peak season without a reservation. Nope! 2 hours wait time... So we headed downstairs to the Café de l'Atlantique, which is owned by the same people. It also shares some of the menu items, and the nicest wine list I've seen in the Gaspe peninsula.
It's a loud place. Like a sports bar without the TVs. Actually, replace the sports theme with fishing, and you get the idea.
The music is much too loud for me. And my tolerance level is higher than my wife... So she was annoyed, to say the least. And the actual music seems to come from the iPod of a schizophrenic person. Very eclectic, going from techno to funk to disco and back, some great stuff, and then some garbage...
Back to food: we both had the fish and seafood kebabs, which were absolutely perfect. Grilled just like you would do them at home. Salmon, halibut, scallops, shrimps, peppers and onions, wonderfully tasty. Be advised that if you choose fries as your accompaniement, you will get a basket that could feed an army.
Service was really nice (thank you Raphaelle).
The owner was greeting people coming in, and he seemed to know almost all of them. Always a good sign when the locals like the place.
All in all we enjoyed a very good meal and we survived the music. If loud music doesn't bother you, you must try this place. Get the kebabs, you won't regret it. Oh and get their Douro private import wine, it's very good and under 40$...

“Time for change”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

I have returned to this restaurant year after year and thought highly of it. This time was a disappointment. For several reasons. When I went with my husband, the food was so-so. He ordered the lobster, a very expensive plate, and ended up having a lobster with only one claw! the shrimps in creamy garlic sauce were boring. Even more boring, the accompanying vegetables with grelot potatoes which may have looked upscale five years ago but quite ordinary now and not as appealing as the huge basket of superb fries served downstairs. The following day, my mom decided to go on her own and was told they did not serve only one person! She was quite disappointed. Definitely not the way they should treat elderlies.
