“First rate place in Gan”

My wife and I stayed here twice before in March/2012 and March/2011. On both occassions we promised we'd be back to use the outdoor patio at Muskey Jake's( the restaurant portion of the facility.
We brought a friend along with us ( we travelled as a group of 3 motorcycles).
Service great( Thx Kylee) and lunch tasty and punctual. I had the clam chowder and pulled pork sandwich while my wife chose the daily special( Black Forest ham on a ciabata bun).
Our friend went for the 2 piece fish and chips which he described as excellent.

A very worthwhile trip from Ottawa to arrive at a pretty destination and the Gan Inn & Spa adds to the experience.

We'll be back again.

This was a nice breakaway for us, three days/nights allowed us to play golf (Smugglers Cove - very nice course), do Thousand Island cruise, attend theatre and enjoy the spa. The Inn was very nice, we had a room on the second floor of the annex with jacuzzi tub and a nice view from the balcony. Setting was quiet but within walking distance of what we wanted. Food was very good.

Our wedding was on June 9, 2012 at the Gananoque inn and spa.
I cannot say enough about the quality of service we experienced.
Ami Kay was phenomenal throughout the planning process and was there on the big day.
Ami was friendly, patient and helpful. She helped to make planning the wedding so easy. Even when we asked the same questions repeatedly and changed our minds, she was kind and accommodating.
The staff was great! So helpful.
The atmosphere on the big day was so positive and it kept me calm ;)
The rooms are all beautiful and the food is delicious!
All of our guests were comfortable and happy with their rooms and had a blast at the wedding.
Everyone needs a weekend at Gananoque inn - I know we will be back soon. ;)

Thank you Tara, I agree. Ami and all those who assist her are wonderful. We have entrusted family weddings to her care with the same happy results!!

we travelled with our toddler and had a wonderful stay here... The town itself is wonderful and quaint and quiet. The property of the inn is located on the water and a 5 minute walk from the Ganonoque boat dock. When we arrived our little boy wanted some milk so the restaurant readily gave us a glass of milk for him-no charge. The room and bathroom were a little worn but clean and had the charm of an inn. The breakfast was what really surprised us- we were expecting a crappy continental breakfast but instead got to choose from a menu of items.. pancakes, french toast, eggs benedict, smoked salmon all on the menu..it is a little pricey but we felt it was well the stay and would definitely recommend this place as a place to stay even when visiting kingston as Gananoque is only 30 mts from Kingston

We are so glad you enjoyed your stay at the Gananoque Inn and Spa and had the opportunity to experience the charms of small town Gananoque. Families traveling with little ones love the splash pad and beach just a short walk for the inn.

My husband and I and two friends spent a few days at this inn at the end of June. The rooms were clean and more than adequate. The staff was very accommodating and the complimentary breakfast was wonderful. To say that the view of the St. Lawrence from the grounds is postcard pretty would be doing it a great injustice. It is conveniently located within walking distance of the tour boats of the Thousand Islands.

Room Tip: Try for a room on the ground level overlooking the St. Lawrence.

I feet that the Inn is not deserving of its high rating on Trip Advisor. (This is the first time that a Trip Advisor rating has steered me wrong.) I will try to be as objective and helpful as possible. I'm not here to flame the Inn; I would just like other Trip Advisor readers to be cautious.

Grounds: Overall, the grounds were quite nice, with landscaping and dock access. From the outside, the Inn looks quaint and welcoming. Unfortunately, this is the most positive thing I can say about our stay.

Rooms: The rooms, meant to be old-fashioned in a good way, just look a little run down. The corners were dirty, the blinds were almost impossible to close, and the water temperature in the shower fluctuated greatly (although this appears to be a municipal problem). Each room is equipped with a window air conditioner since the building predates central air. The window unit kept the room cool but was excessively loud. The beds were the surprise of our stay. Although equipped with scratchy old-style top comforters (the kind that you doubt are washed even if they are), they were very comfortable.

Restaurant food: The food was on the whole average with the exception of the breakfast pancakes, which were actually quite tasty. I would have felt better about the food had the service and atmosphere been better.

Restaurant service: The service in the restaurant was very slow. On our second morning, a wedding party was seated before us. (The restaurant was still less than half full.) Our harried server bluntly told us, "There are 20 orders before you, so it will be a while." The Inn clearly knew that a large wedding group was in the hotel and should have planned their kitchen staff accordingly, or at least been more polite about the delay. Our server did become more gracious after the large party left; I believe she was just feeling overwhelmed by numbers.

Atmosphere: The common areas, particularly the restaurant, were rather dirty. There were dirty corners and cobwebs. In the restaurant, a dead cockroach was left languishing on the window sill for the entire duration of our stay. (We nicknamed him Spanky.)

Value: I felt that the Gananoque Inn was far too expensive for the quality of service. I paid $188 per night during the peak season. Had the hotel been charging $100 a night, I would have considered it average overall, if a little run down. Put quite simply, the hotel is selling itself as a luxury getaway when in reality it is motel quality.

Your review is a disappointment to all who work so hard to make the Gananoque Inn and Spa an inviting, historic property. Your room rate, which included parking and a full breakfast for two, was entirely reasonable for a holiday weekend in July. We do not have cockroaches but we certainly have the odd earwig that, in spite of our best efforts, finds its way inside from the flowers - just as may happen in your own home with frequently opening door.
Regardless of the number of staff in the kitchen only so many breakfasts can be prepared at any one time. We are not a fast food restaurant and food is prepared to order. If our servers forsees a longer than usual wait time we have instructed them to inform our guests as a courtesy.
