“First class”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 4, 2013

Great atmosphere, attentive wait staff, superb steaks. My wife had a flank steak . . The server said it would be a little chewy but my wife wanted to try it anyway. She said it was as tender as any filet mignon she has ever had. If you love steak and are in Magog, stop here, you won't be disappointed.

“Keep looking...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2013

This Saturday night dinner was part of a birthday getaway weekend, and effort had been made in all arrangements, but this part didn't really work out - good thing we enjoy each other's company, and made up for it in other ways.

It could have been an unremarkable but ok restaurant experience, except that the server made a calamitous error and then did nothing to compensate...

Decor and ambiance - love the lighting and wood features. Needs sound damping in a big way. Music was 'meh'.

Food - Sauces were pretty good. Otherwise, kind of mediocre on all fronts... Nothing too interesting on the menu. Onion soup heavy on pepper and salt. Steak and veggie temperature so-so. Very thin filet mignon and kind of dry. Disproportionately spendy main courses, considering calibre.

Service - No problem being attended to and seated on arrival. After that was where they fell down though... waiter took the wine from me, pulled and pocketed the cork, went across to pour a verification taste for my boyfriend (?), and then started pouring INTO MY WATER. I pointed it out before wine was out of bottle, but he was slow to react and wasted a couple of ounces. He referred to it as a "silly" mistake because he "wasn't paying attention". That was it. He sent another server to take our food orders and never another word about it - we even had to flag him down to at least get the cork back!

Now, sure, we all have a careless moment once in awhile, but his mistake was with our specially procured $100 celebratory wine, and in service, a gesture of compensation goes a long way to correcting a negative experience. We didn't really feel "oops" was a sufficient response, and something like an apology with offer of an item on the house (e.g. even just the soup) would have at least shown basic professional acknowledgment.

Even without the blunder, we would not likely go back (too many better restaurants, especially in neighboring villages). Considering the ambiance and service level, I suggest avoiding this place altogether.

“Excellent Ribs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

The presentation and preparation of the food on your plate is quite appealing. My husband and I ate the ribs which were excellent and priced around $18.00 each which is a selection that is least expensive on the menu.

“Bring your own wine”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 1, 2013

Not a great restaurant but a very good one for a place like Magog. Some of the best steaks in town. The great new thing about this restaurant is the ability to bring your own wine. I am a bit surprised that this place is never busy. Good menu and ok service. One of the top choices in Magog.
