“Absolutely Perfect BnB in Eastern Townships”
Reviewed July 15, 2012

My partner and I were fortunate enough to stay at A La Maison Campbell (Magog, QC) for two nights while touring southern Quebec by bicycle. We couldn't have had a better experience - Danielle and Jean are welcoming, friendly, helpful, fun Innkeepers, and their property is lovely, both inside and out (extensive gardens with hammocks!!).

Breakfast was delicious, and large enough for two hungry cyclists (no easy task!). Most importantly, Danielle was kind enough to accommodate my gluten-free needs - she is knowledgeable about food allergies, and practices excellent food separation in the kitchen. And both gluten-free and normal breakfasts were wonderful (all featured regular contributions from her garden).

Finally, A La Maison Campbell is located right on Route Verte 1, and is a 5 minute walk away from Rue Principale in Magog. They offered great bike storage, too.

We travelled over from Scotland and chanced upon this lovely B&B whilst discovering the Eastern Townships. We stayed for three nights -nJean and Danielle were wonderful hosts, even trying to help us hire a car when it was time to move on and when this did not work out Danielle ran us to the bus stop which is situated out of town!
We stayed in the Sutton Room which was lovely with nice little touches. The house is over 100 years old and beautifullly preserved. The garden is gorgeous too and we enjoyed the hammocks, not to mention sitting on the front porch on the lovely summer evenings!
We loved the breakfasts which were gourmet to say the least! Jean and Danielle were very friendly and great fun. If you are looking for a B&B in Magog then we would heartily recommend Maison Campbell - very centrally located but also an oasis of peace! If we are ever lucky enough to return to this area we will stay here!! Thanks again for all your help!

Room Tip: Sutton room is the largest and beautifully decorated

Our second stay at Maison Campbell... return trips speak volumes. We really enjoy not only the superlative room, and breakfast, but also the attentive service of Jean and Danielle, and the gracious, comfortable atmosphere they cultivate. Attention to detail... laughter, music, nuance.. it's all right here.

We had to make drastic changes to our travel plans based on soggy weather.... our hosts spent a good part of their day, searching out alternative accommodations at Mont-Tremlant to the north, where the weather was colder and the skiing better. Not only did they find us a wonderful B & B - last minute alternative, they also negotiated a significant discount for us.

Highly recommended... be sure to try the freshly baked croissants!!!

Room Tip: Sutton Room is our favourite..... nice morning light, and very quiet.

We spend the night last weekend at Maison Campbell. Jean and Danielle are perfect hosts, making sure everything you require is at your disposal. The B&B is spotless clean. The atmosphere is exquisite. The decor is country, with family antiques throughout. The rooms are beautiful and comfortable. We staying in La Saint-Benoit room. Breakfast cooked by Danielle was absolutely haute cuisine ! There is a lovely walk close by on the Marais de la Rivière aux Cerises, which is good for all ages ( and dogs). Lac Memphramagog is walking distance, as is Main Street with shops and restaurants. Mont Orford is minutes away, for either hiking or skiing in the winter. We ate dinner at the Auberge at the base of Mont Orford, at Restaurant Comme Chez Soi. Was excellent, and it's BYOB. I highly recommend staying at Maison Campbell. We have already recommended it to family and friends.

Danielle and Jean are perfect hosts and set the scene for a relaxing vacation

A leisurely breakfast is served, cooked by Danielle, the presentation and contents of which is superb. To enjoy it at its best expect to sit back and enjoy the experience, this is not for those in a rush. Dinner is offerred at certain times of the year.

The rooms are all different, all charmingly decorated. There was no TV or phone, and we did not miss them! There is a CD player which was provided with a CD compiled by the hosts, a lovely touch. We had a lap top with us so were able to pick up wireless internet, sometimes difficult to connect to but we had success in the main.

A La Maison Campbell is in an ideal location to explore the surrounding and beautiful, area either by car, as in our case, or for those with more energy by cycling. The town of Magog is a few minutes walk away as is Lake Memphremagog - the size of which is bigger than the country we live in! A minor point, maybe it was my misunderstanding but when I read information I thought the lake was very close to the B and B, perhaps words got "lost in translation" but steps away to me is very close and whilst it is certainly not far it is not literally on the doorstep.

To name just a few nearby attractions are Saint Benoit du Lac, a Benedictine Abbey which is spectacular-we noticed people took a picnic with them there and it makes a great rest stop. There is also a shop there which sells produce from the monastery farms such as cheese, jams, cider. Bleu Lavande is a lavendar farm at Fitch Bay, Savon des Cantons which is on the way to the abbey, numerous vineyards and overall some wonderful scenery and small towns to pass through.

There are many local restaurants nearby to chose from.

For those planning to drive to Montreal afterwards allow plenty of time, in August the traffic was heavy and road works numerous as we neared Montreal heading to the airport.

Room Tip: There are 5 rooms to choose from, one room has a king size bed in it.

I went there with my niece. The owners are very helpful and it is clear they enjoy their life as B&B hosts. They make you feel at home. Breakfast was really good - better than most. Location is great. Just out of of downtown - but 5 minute walk and you are in the middle of the action.

Our stay at La Maison Campbell was a glowing highlight of our vacation to the eastern townships - a supremely comfortable room, with attentive, thoughtful hospitality service... lovely gourmet breakfast. A delightful experience overall!

In the future, we'll be certain to make Maison Campbell our base-camp for vacations in the Eastern Townships.
