Castle View House Bed and Breakfast
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed June 28, 2009

We felt welcome the minute Garrett and Tricia opened the door and introduced themselves. The accomodations were so comfortable. The rooms were bright and airy. The room came with breakfast and dinner. Tricia is a fabulous cook. The food was plentiful and delicious! You never go hungry.

The grounds were gorgeous with a view of the Castle. It was so peaceful and quite. If you want shopping and restaurants, they are down the road about 10 miles. If you want to relax, just hang out at the hotel and enjoy the view or long walks. They also have a little furry friend named Odie and he welcomes everyone coming up the driveway. You'll just fall in love with him. This was one of the best stays I have ever had and I recommend it to anyone traveling to Ballylongford or just Ireland. Thank you Garrett and Tricia for making our stay so wonderful! I hope to make it back soon!

Well I have to say that I was quiet dissapointed with my stay at this B&B. I
would expect more up to date facilities from a 'Bord Failte approved' B&B. The
decor was 80's drab style with alot of diy in evidence - faded curtains that
didn't keep the light out. I would have liked to make a cuppa in the room as
unlike a previous reviewer I did not experience the bonhomie of the owner.
Certainly there was no access to a kitchen for tea making facilities. Cups of
tea aside my main comment would be that the location is in the middle of
absolutely nowhere. The website for this accommodation promises a wealth of
activities. Not so. The nearest village Ballylongford is a couple of miles
away with no facilities for the tourist - couldn't find anywhere decent to eat.
I won't be coming back!

We had a great time in this lovely friend B & B with a friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The food was excellent both Gareth and Patricia were very helpful and accommodating. You do need a car to get around in this area of Ireland. If you want a relaxing and beautifully located place to stay we would recommend this B & B.

Thanks again
Adie and Adrian

excellent situation, in an island. lovely enviroment. pat and garrett was correct with us. just breakfast compared to other b&b where we have been. i'd recommend only for b&b, but i wouldn't recommend the dinner: it was expensive and they wanted to charge us more money than we agreed by mail. cheap room but so expensive dinner . i recommend you to confirm the number of rooms because they took advantage to put bed in the room when we're 6 persons to stay in 3 rooms, finally we used 2 rooms, 3 persons per room.

It was a great two nights. There was 6 of us that stayed and the accommodations were outstanding. I have read that people didn't like not having a coffee maker in the rooms, but we had access to the kitchen and Pat and Garrett got anything that we wanted. They fixed us breakfast one morning earlier than the scheduled time so that we would not miss our tee time. The rooms were clean and well maintained.

We spent one evening in the kitchen with Garrett talking and drinking beer with him. They keep in contact with us through email and they are planning to visit Texas now. They are a great couple and you will be treated like your at home while you are there.

We enjoyed our stay the rooms were standard enough and was quiet disapointed that for a Bord Failte accomadation there was no tea/coffee making facilites in the rooms or a television..
The Breakfast was excellent though

We stayed at the Castle View B & B for one night as a stop on our driving trip around Ireland. The area was rural, very beautful and so nice and quiet. We had a nice home cooked meal and took a walk across the bridge to explore the abandoned, ruined abbey. The owners' dog Odie adopted us (due to much bribing with treats) and went along, helping us to feel less homesick for our own doggies at home. The room was comfortable, and the shower had the inline heater so the temperature was exactly perfect. Our "full irish" breakfast was more than we could eat. Odie and some pals helped take care of any extra bacon. As to "small portions" I am sure that Garrett and Patricia would have cheerfully offered seconds if anyone could have possibly still been hungry after three slices of bacon, two sausages, two eggs, grilled tomatoes, coffee, juice and toast! Out of all the places we stayed in Ireland this was one of the best values and unforgettable experiences. We will be back, and now that we know that Garrett is the keeper of the castle, we may ask for a late night ghost tour! The castle history is extremely interesting and violent, it was beseiged and all occupants were put to death.
