I have stayed here several times and it is a super relaxed place...you do what you want to do and go where you want to go. The shore community is small and very friendly. If you stay for more than a couple of nights, you will get to know the people on the shore. There are several young families with a history in Burnt Church who have been coming down recently. The hotel is clean, rooms and bathrooms accented with local textile fabrics; on the veranda overlooking the bay, we have early morning coffee, eat lunch and dinner (which we make in the well equipped kitchen). There is a golf course, boats to rent to go to Portage Island, a sandy island with a bay on one side and ocean on the other, 10k into the bay. Great for kids. Every Wednesday during July and into August, the local woman's group hosts a lunch and sale of hand made goods at the local church. + Nearby Neguac has the best lobster rolls at Chez Raymond's.

I have stayed at the Prospect Hotel for two to four weeks every summer for close to ten years now. There are many reasons why I keep coming back. The hotel is a beautiful old home with six bedrooms for guests, two living rooms, a spacious kitchen and a big dining room. It is also unique in my experience. The kitchen, while worthy of a professional chef, doesn't have one. The guests have the run of it. You can stock the fridge with food and the stove and barbecues are yours to use. My mother, sisters and I have cooked many lobsters, salmon, mackerel and even the odd steak to enjoy by ourselves or with friends. This makes a holiday a lot more enjoyable and home cooking certainly keeps the price down. Check out at the room price at the website and you can see why I have stayed there for weeks at a time.
There is a wonderful veranda on the front of the hotel overlooking the bay. There's swimming (nice once you're in), five minutes away you'll find the the Burnt Church Sewell Golf Course with no hole longer than 200 yards, and tricky greens (but not because they're cut like Augusta), and ten minutes away you'll hit the main road. Turn left for Miramichi or go right for the Acadian Peninsula. There's lots to do, if you choose to do it. Burnt Church is also a great community where the people are as friendly as the life is easy. On more than one occasion, an impromptu party has been known to break out.
The owner of the Prospect Hotel, Stafford Anderson, has always gone out of his way to accommodate us. He's created a clean and comfortable hotel with a friendly atmosphere and we've only had good experiences with the other guests. Whether you stay a night or a few weeks, I've found that people always wish they could stay longer.
