Palazzo is a striking lookinng hotel. It's well lcoated next to the Monte Casino complex so lots to do and see on site. Bedrooms are super. Some of the standard rooms are a bit on the small side. The Penthouse suite is unbelievable, spacious and palatial. The restaurant is mediocre at this stage from a food perspective. Breakfasts are pricey - even for a continental breakfast. Service in the main lounge bar area is also mediocre. Staff are friendly and willing though. Make sure to compare specials over the time period you require. I will utilise this hotel still though. Love the ambience!

When you walk in you are immediately greeted with smiles. It's a nice welcome. The room I stayed in was lovely and spacious with a great bathroom. I also had a wonderful view of the garden. It's not a "brand-new" feeling, but I liked it here. I would stay again.

Over the last couple of years I have spent about 20 nights in this hotel. It’s quite good but does have several glitches that should be addressed. The breakfast for example costs three times as much as a good pizza in one of the restaurants in the nearby casino. It’s not only the price of the breakfast that bothers me: having to wait for and then sign a bill after each breakfast – even if it’s included in your corporate rate – is a waste of time, and is most likely driven by the ever-felt need for gratuities.

Most of the staff members are very friendly, but my check-out procedure was painful enough to make me decide to try another hotel during my next stay.

Likes: nice bathroom with separate shower and bath, good bed, in-room DVD player, large safe that easily holds two laptops and my photo gear, friendly staff with a few exceptions.

Dislikes: breakfast too expensive (unless you’re obese), sleeps two but only sits one, desk too high for chair (an adjustable chair would fix that), Internet painfully slow when most rooms are occupied, room quite small, flimsy French balcony doors, TV too far away from the only comfy seat, noisy heater, no in-room coffee making facility (no, Nescafe does not deserve to be called coffee), no in-door pool.

Room Tip: Make sure that you ask for a non-smoking room if you want one, else you may end up in a room that stinks like an ashtray. Avoid rooms near the motorway because traffic starts well before 7 AM. Enjoy dinner in one of the many restaurants in the nearby casino. The cost a lot less and serve great food.

Dear traveller,

Thank you for posting your most valuable feedback on Tripadvisor.
As a business traveller I can appreciate that you might want to enjoy a light breakfast. I would recommend that you inform the restaurant to be billed accordingly for what you consume.

It is concerning that your impression behind our breakfast billing is in order for our waitrons to earn gratuities. As not all of our room rates include breakfast, our systems are set up to charge a breakfast to a guest room, and then checks to see if it’s included in the rate or not, and then processes the transaction accordingly. For the latter reason, a signed bill is unfortunately required.

Your comments with regards to the room seating and layout will be put forward, as we are planning our refurbishment next year.

Once again, thank you for feedback and your patronage, it is highly appreciated.

Kind regards

Beautiful complex and good location. Lots of staff to greet upon arrivals or departures. One of the best welcomes was the hot chocolate we were given a very small cup of to enjoy upon arrival by Naomi at the conceirge who was extremely helpful, friendly and pleasant during our stay. Unfortunately they dont give that chocolate sample out again, only for arrivals and dont sell the mix either! I was hooked on hot chocolate after that during my whole stay at the Palazzo for 4 nites and So Africa for the entire week and had to make do with the complimentary packaged ones provided in our room which was not quite as good. Fresh apples at the front desk, fitness center and free bottles of water as well which was nice. Our room was rather small for the price but had a nice view of the pool area which was beautiful but closed during our stay. Room Decor was good quality in a lovely tuscany style with usual amenities. Easy walking distance to complex shopping center and casino which had many good restaurants to choose from. There is also a bigger and less expensive shopping center about three blocks from hotel which is definitely worth visiting for gifts and shopping. There is a bird garden next to hotel that you can visit for a small price and is a quick interesting thing to do if you have a couple extra hours to check out the various bird species. Booked a half day tour to Soweto and around Johannesburg while there which was interesting, informative and included visits to historical sites such as Mandela's house, Desmond Tutu's house, museum and apartheid disparities.

Dear Traveller,

Thank you for posting such a detailed review on Tripadvisor. It is wonderful to hear that you were able to enjoy our hotel as well as our city. It sounds like you had full holiday.

Thank you for choosing to recognise Naomi, our guest relations officer. Her friendly smile and great attitude towards service and guests, makes her an asset at our Concierge desk.

I am disappointed to hear that you were under the impression that the pool was closed, as you could visit it at any time. During the winter months we do have limited patrons and therefore have minimal staff on duty to service the pool.
Should you choose to return, please discus the room requirements with our front desk in order for us to ensure that you have all the space that you need.

Kind regards
