Owner description: With a view over Provence to the Mediterranean, the Château des Baux is one of the most beautiful sites in France. It is also a unique place marked by a turbulent past of more than ten centuries: from the Counts of Les Baux (who claimed to be descended from King Balthazar) to the Château’s destruction in 1483 by Richelieu after the wars of religion. This medieval stronghold contains both a castle and a village.

We visit Les Beaux each time we are in the area and it never disappoints. We went early morning to avoid the crowds and had the place almost to ourselves to explore. Great for kids and teenagers and also agile adults. Lots of events organised through the day and firing crossbows was our favourite.

This place is stunning and must not be missed if you visit Provence . The town on the side of the hill is worth the visit alone if you don't want to visit the castle . The castle puts on both catapult displays and knights exhibitions of jousting . The castle it's self has numerous ramparts and dungeons to visit and the views from the tops of the ramparts are stunning of the surrounding Provence area. Numerous parking areas and restaurants and cafes as well as the normal shops . One thing to be aware of in these tourist attractions is its near impossible to sit down for just a coffee without having to have food ,even when empty . Probably one of the best attractions in France DO NOT MISS

This is a ruined castle that has two unique features compared with other castles. (1) An excellent history with audio guide, and (2) re-enactments of personal combat and sieze weapons. This makes it very unique and well worth the trip.

The castle setting is great with fantastic views over the area. There is not much left of the castle, and they did a good job in making your imagination run wildly.
There are several shows during the day that you'll love, like throwing boulders with catapults (kids and adults can do it). You can also compete with your friends and kids at archery, in particular crossbow. The stand is below the castle, to the far end of the visit. You should go there first, at it gets crowded fast, and it takes a while for each family/group member to shoot. You can shoot several times if there is nobody, including the big mechanical crossbow.
If you don't want to pay for the parking, park your car at the Carriere de Lumiere (5 min walk). You can buy a combined ticket for the castle and Carriere de Lumiere. Both attractions are worth it and kids friendly.
