“Beautiful Mas in Provence”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 26, 2011

Unfortunately we have only been for one night, but the stay in this romantic, quiet an well placed oasis near Les Baux was fantastic. The rooms in Provence-Style, good furnished an well sized. Could have a Restaurant but there are enough top adresses around. Breakfast near the pool was genious, the housemade jam excellent! Next time I'll stay longer!

This is a beautifully run hotel in a fabulous setting. We liked everything about it except the rather lurid shade of green that our room was painted and will definitely be back. Hesitating to tell anyone about it actually! The only thing I would say is that the extras sure add up, and it ended up being more expensive than I had anticipated. If you are on a budget avoid eating meals at the hotel.

Having passed through the valley below Les Baux de Provences once before with family, we fancied a stay in the valley on another visit sans kids. Mas de l'Oulivie appeared to offer a good balance of quality and price. And so it proved. The hotel building is modest in scale but with its grounds gives a sense of a deceptively spacious retreat. The pool is nicely landscaped with plentiful and comfortable loungers. The breakfast and lunch area next to it is secluded and quiet. Food was terrific - breakfasts made to order, lunch selection broad and dishes excellent. Staff were friendly, courteous and efficient, from initial welcome to friendly service of digestifs and chocolates at night. No real issues. Our room was good though small-ish; wifi didn't penetrate much beyond the lounge beside Reception; and the lack of an evening restaurant might be an issue for some but wasn't for us - getting out to nearby Mausanne or Fontvieille was easy and fun. Nice touch at Mas: the herb plants and bushes on the path leading to the front door. To get out of your car after the drive is to instantly smell Provence. Typical of the charm and thoughtfulness of this lovely hotel.

Room Tip: The rooms opening on to the small front garden, to the right of reception, looked nice

We actually wanted to go to another hotel, but july is the busy season... No regrets. This Mas is very well done. We stayed in superiour rooms where an eye for detail had paid attention. The garden is done with great care and name tags are positioned near all flowers. We visited two restaurants that were recommended, both great places with superb meals. The location of the Mas is not at walking distance from Baux, but that is actually quite nice and quiet. Walking trails are behind the hotel, which was great as we took the dog wiht us. If there is one remark, it is that service for breakfast is very slow. Overall: recommendee without hesitations.

Lovely lovely hotel, with the friendliest service you could hope to get. As most reviewers have said, the pool is particularly stunning; breakfast was a highlight; and the whole placed just oozed peace and calm.

The location was both good and not so good. You're surrounded by the rocks and the hills of the region, and in the evening you can feel you're in the middle of nowhere. The problem is that you can't walk anywhere, not unless you know something that we didn't, and not as close to the old town of Les Baux as I'd thought. To get anywhere you had to take a car, and as there is no dinner served at the hotel, this means you have to drive. That said, the ultra-friendly receptionist recommended a fantastic restaurant in nearby Maussanne Les Alpilles, where we had the best meal of our whole trip, and when we got back, she very kindly poured us a digestif which we drank by that lovely pool.

We have been visiting Les Baux area over 15 years. We recently stayed this wonderful hotel with our children. We had a fantastic time - the room was spacious even for 4 people; the garden was well maintained and smelled herbs even in Autumn; the parking was safe with code access; their eco conscious approach was great; the staff seemed to be delightful, etc. We used to stay other hotels nearby in the same star category and now we really regret why we did not choose here from the beginning!!! This is probably the best hotel around here. I wonder why it is only rated ***NH?

This hotel was is a great location to do day trips around Provence. The hotel and grounds are beautiful, beautiful gardens, gorgeous pool, tennis courts and the public rooms are very nicely appointed and comfortable. The rooms were very nice, ours opened to the gardens. The staff was outstanding, very helpful and friendly. The recommended restaurants in the area were fabulous. I highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay there again, make sure you take time to just sit around the pool, relax and enjoy the views.
