Owner description: The Atlas Coal Mine National Historic Site is considered Canada's most complete historic coal mine and offers visitors a range of interpretive tours, on the surface, underground and up into the last wooden tipple in the country. We tell the amazing stories of the miners who came to seek their fortunes in the Drumheller Valley, in the heart of the Canadian Badlands.

This mine is in great shape. The staff are extremely knowledgeable. Fun for all ages!

It’s a cheap entrance fee but be prepared to pay for everything little thing extra.

It’s nice to see some of the money raise from tours going back in to keeping the buildings standing. They have done a good job of not replacing the aged look of the buildings with newer woods.

There is a working coal train woot woot!

All in all, this was a great step into the past.

Our tour guide on the train ride told many funny stories and was very good at giving us safety information because the ride was like no other - loud, rough and FUN!

Experience a real coal mine, it's easy to imagine yourself as a coal-miner as you tour the workings. Excellent guides who 'know their stuff'!

Had a great time! Did the Day Pass and everything was timed perfectly so we got to do all the tours. Very entertaining and educational. Bring sunscreen, light clothing, and sturdy shoes. Plan for at least 3-4 hours.

As you visit Drumheller Alberta here are a lot of natural above ground wonders such as the hoodoos and canyons. There is also a lot of history with dinosaurs and fossils.

Add to that a real historic coal mine you can wander through and you have an amazing adventure. The coal mine almost seems ghostly in its current state.
