I didn't expect anything special here, and I didn't get it. Overall, no complaints but I think I can get better value for money elsewhere, including many of the good hotels downtown. Remember when HIEx was one of the lower-priced options? No more ...

Access from the Skytrain is a bit odd; down a dark staircase, across a bus bay, over dimly-lit curb that tripped my wife up.

Room was satisfactory. Bed a bit soft, but that's an individual thing. Heating-cooling system that was simple to use, not too loud, and effective, although it didn't respond for a few minutes and we wondered if it would work at all.

I didn't have high expectations for breakfast, having had many a continental-plus breakfast. But golly. I had an omelet-like disk and another sausage-like disk, neither of which would have met even Costco's standards; couldn't finish them. Dry, boring pastries. Fairly good coffee. Free newspapers.

No problem with the construction, since we weren't there in working hours, but our south-facing room on the 5th of 6 floors was right above a busy bus bay. The Skytrain was a gentle whirr in the background, and the buses weren't noisy, EXCEPT that they all have the low-floor entry, and every time the bus door opens it is requires to beep repeatedly to warn people. Not enough to wake you up, but if you are up in the night it is loud and frequent enough to be a small issue. But eventually there will be a gap in the buses and it's back to dreamland. If you're a light sleeper, ask to be across the hall.

Room Tip: Avoid south side over bus bays. Height doesn't help.

I traveled to Vancouver from Michgan for work and stayed for two weeks. The location was perfect as it was across the street from the train station and next to a mall. I left my fan run at night and could not hear the train coming and going. The hot breakfast every morning served a variety for anyone's tastes. The laundry facility was adequate. The beds were very comfortable. The staff was accommodating and kind. I would stay here again over and over.

I have stayed at this location several times and it has been uniformly good. The location was ideal with a good sushi restaurant and several family type restaurants a short walk away. However, there is a massive re-construction around the hotel site and all of the surrounding buildings have been torn down. Part of the hotel itself also appears to be under construction. Our room was looking a bit tired and the carpet clearly needed replacing. No complaints about the service but this is not the place it used to be. Once all the construction is done, it will likely be a top choice again. Give it a year or so.

Room Tip: The formerly "quiet" side would be the north side, but that now faces a huge construction...

Thank you for the review of your recent stay with us. It is true that there is a lot of construction in our area, and the adjacent mall (Station Square) is undergoing a significant renovation. This works takes place between 8 am and 5 pm on weekedays. We expect the mall renovation to be complete in 6 to 8 months, however, during that time, our hotel remains fully operational. We are also currently undertaking renovations to our hotel. We have already completed the breakfast bar and fitness room, and the meeting rooms will be complete by the end of October. During December and January, we will be completely refreshing all of our guestrooms, including furniture, seating, draperies, wallpaper, and carpeting. We will complete the guestroom renovations in phases, so that we can take sections of rooms out of order so as not to impact guest stays. We work hard to ensure the comfort of our guests while we undertake these upgrades, to ensure your stay will not be affected. I know you will love our newly renovated hotel when it is complete at the beginning of the new year.

We were welcomed by professional staff and they found us a room although we were well ahead of booking in time. This room was opposite the Sky Train Station and as I suffer from migraines I could not cope with the noise every few minutes. The reception staff quickly and without fuss offered us another room to check out and this one was quiet at night which is the main thing. Yes, there is building work going on at the rear but it is only between 8am and 5pm. The room had a microwave and fridge in addition to the usual amenities we are used to in England. Plastic cutlery is available at reception. The breakfast had in addition to the usual, a pancake machine and warm cinnamon buns (yum!). The pool and patio looked inviting with swimming towels available. We used Sky Train frequently to get into the centre of Vancouver, average time 18 mins.

I really enjoyed my stay here. It was less expensive than the downtown hotels and in a great location. It was across the street from the train service. The staff was great. The room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was okay but it was the a good deal since there were no other restaurants close by.

Thank your for posting a review of your recent stay. We are very well located, directly across from the Metrotown Skytrain station, and beside the largest shopping mall in BC - Metropolis at Metrotown. We do have dozens of restaurants within walking distance of our hotel, including the Cactus Club, Earls, and many more offering various kinds of fare. We do have a list at our front desk, and a convenient area map with the locaitons noted on them. I hope we can welcome you back to our hotel when you are next in our area.

Had to make a business trip and thought the Holiday Inn Express Burnaby would be central. It was so that was good. Construction continues and lots of loud banging and hammering going on during the day..not nice. Returned around 4:00 and room wasn't cleaned yet. I am sure they were busy so have to take that into consideration. Talked to several of the cleaning staff and they were very pleasant. The rooms are small and tight and expensive for what you got. (A view that looked like a news report in some bombed out country.) Beds were comfortable. Breakfast was ok. Staff there were friendly. Andy was one of the front end staff that was very helpful when I had to extend our stay. The problem in Burnaby Metrotown area is there isn't a lot of choices in hotels and it irks me to pay that much for a small room especially when there was nothing major going on in town.

Room Tip: The upper floors are renovated which makes them nicer but pricier.....

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us. I am happy to hear that you found that our team members provided great service for you. I am sorry that your room was not serviced earlier in the day, and if you do stay with us again, just request an early service and we will take care of that for you. Our housekeeping department does work until 4.30 pm, but we are happy to accommodate anyone who needs early service. As you mentioned, there is construction around us, however, it is limited to 8 pm to 5 pm, and we expect it will be complete in the next 8 months. Metrotown is a very busy area with a lot of business travellers. When the Vancouver area is busy, most of the hotel rooms in our area will be full. That certainly does affect our rates. We do have Advance Purchase rates on our website that are quite reasonable, and if you travel plans are firm, that is a great way to get a good discount. Thank you again for taking the time to post your review, and we hope to welcome you back when you are next in the Vancouver Metrotown area.

My family has stayed here three times this past year and plan on returning!
Located next to Metrotown Shopping Centre and directly across from the sky train station, we found this location convenient for concerts and events as the sky train drops us off in front of Rogers Arena, BC Place and many other downtown venues without the hefty price of parking and the hike in hotel prices. There is free parking at the hotel for when we do take our vehicle.
The rooms are spacious and clean, there is a fridge as well.
This hotel also has a nice outdoor pool though we didn't use it. Check in was at 3pm and each time we came the room wasn't ready until 3 pm so we just popped over to the mall next door, and they held our bags for us. There is a free breakfast in the morning ( only accessible by elevator) but on our last visit the pancake machine wasn't working. This was the only time I encountered a rude staff member, when I pointed it out, she said I didn't push the right button. As she walked away the machine stopped and a warning message came on to replace a part, I called her back to show her, and to prove it wasn't my fault, and she just said its broken and walked away. No effort to put an out of order sign and we saw the line up grow with others trying to work it. The rest of the breaky was ok, scrambled eggs, cold sausages and lots of white bread as they ran out of whole wheat. This was on our last stay there, the other 2 times were better, but Ihop is just down the street.
As a Priority Club member we did get a package of snacks and a water bottle on check in so that was nice. Hoping it was just a bad day for breaky and its fixed up next time we go

Thank you for reviewing your recent stay with us. I am very sorry our breakfast bar hostess was not more informative and apologetic when there was an issue with the pancake machine in our breakfast bar. I will definitely have a coaching session with her to discuss how we should handle any occasional problems that occur with the equipment. Please accept my most sincere apology, and my assurance that this is not to our normal standard, as you experienced with all of our other great staff members. Thank you for sharing your experience, and how convenient and comfortable you found our hotel. I really appreciate your comments.
