“Restaurant and Lounge have reopened”
Reviewed July 2, 2014

The restaurant and lounge at the DI have reopened and are better then ever. The staff are fast and very courteous and polite. The food is amazing. I took my family for the gourmet omelet bar on Sunday mornings and it was so good, not to mention a huge fluffy omelet cooked right in front of you. The Prime Rib Buffet on Friday nights is to die for, as usual. You have got to go down and check this place out. You will definitely leave feeling satisfied and full.
And for those of you staying in the hotel, the complimentary breakfast isn't the ordinary powdered eggs and a muffin you find at most places. You get a hot buffet breakfast. This includes scrambled eggs, hashbrown potatoes, bacon or ham or sausage (depending on the day)
as well as cereal, toast, bagels, oatmeal, juice, coffee/tea and fresh fruit.

“Average accommodations.”
Reviewed June 18, 2014

Well located in the downtown area but like most hotels are close to highway so a bit noisy. Checkin was very good with pleasant and friendly attendant (Susan). Room had nice view and beds were very comfortable. Had a quick beer in lounge and bartender was very friendly

A con is the breakfast, while free, was not hot and ends early at 9am which I thought strange when check out is noon. Pretty much all the places I have stayed with a breakfast ends at 10 am

overpriced. Not great at all. Save your money and go somewhere else. The service was ok but it took forever to get our food.

“Adequate, but not a "wow" experience....”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

We spent the day and evening in Campbell River and wanted a nice place to eat dinner. Since we had been to the Coast Discovery restaurant several years ago, we thought it fit the bill.

Our server brought two of us the gluten-free menu, which had three items on it. Our orders included gf pasta with a cream-based sauce and prawns, and two spinach blueberry/orange salads with seafood.

The salads were basic (spinach and fruit), so the addition of smoked salmon on one and a skewer of scallops on the other made for a flavourful combination.

There was a great deal of sauce on the pasta, which was just ladled into the bowl. Although I'm not a chef, the thought was that it could have been garnished with a sprig of parsley or a sprinkling of herbs around the rim of the bowl.

Overall, we felt the experience was adequate, but lacked the ambiance of fine dining that the Coast Discovery Inn may hope to convey. Something needs to be improved....the decor? The presentation of the meals? Not sure.
