“Bears Galore”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 10, 2012

An excellent day trip to Bute Inlet and the mouth of the Orford River. We were part of a group of 9 on the day we went and Joel our skipper was most welcoming.
We didn't have the biologist on board but Joel was so knowledgeable that we probably didn't need one.
En route we saw Seals and sealions but no dolphins or whales. However that didn't matter because when we got to tower 5 there was a mother grizzly bear and her two cubs waiting for us. To see them in their natural habitat whilst safe ourselves was amazing. We had plenty of time for bear viewing and weren't rushed at all.
Lunch was served on board (sandwich and water) on the way and a hot drink and biscuit before we returned.

“Awesome Grizzly Bear expedition to Bute Inlet”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 4, 2012

Experience an amazing expedition to view grizzly bears in their natural habitat fishing for chum salmon! My family and I (all adults) enjoyed the grizzly bear tour out of Campbell River and into Bute Inlet on Sunday, September 30. In addition to observing several grizzly bears, we also watched chum salmon defending their nests in the river bed, enjoyed the acrobatics of pacific white-sided dolphins bow-riding and saw numerous stellar sea lions and bald eagles. The whole experience was phenomenal including the sunshine and calm waters, the comfortable boat ride, the amazingly diverse and abundant local wildlife and the stunning West Coast British Columbia scenery made even more magnificent with Autumn approaching. I'd like to extend a huge "thank you" to everyone at Discovery Marine Safaris for providing us with this world class adventure!! Office Manager, Kat, was very personable and friendly and made booking the excursion an easy and pleasant task. Our captain, Shaun, navigated the journey professionally and competently exhibiting a tremendous amount of knowledge and experience. The included sandwich and snacks were fresh and tasty. Naturalist, Mark, was extremely knowledgable and passionate about the wildlife residents of this region and we found his enthusiasm for their care contagious. In short, the entire team at Discovery Marine Safaris worked hard to ensure that my family shared an unbelievable "trip of a lifetime"!! We highly recommend this trip and assure you that it is well worth the cost. TIP: bring a good camera and a set of binoculars and enjoy!

“A brilliant day out”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012

Grizzly bear tour on Monday 24th September to Bute Inlet was a great success. An exciting ride out: a huge school of dolphins swam alongside the boat in the Bute Inlet, leaping out of the water. Also saw orcas and sea lions. Finally at the Homalco first nation site we safely witnessed grizzly bears catching fish in the river. The first nation guides knew exactly where to take us. The season for this successful trip is limited to when the salmon are spawning. It is a very expensive trip but the wildlife viewing was brilliant. It is a long day trip out and back by boat (12 noon to 8pm)

“Excellent Grizzlybear viewing tour.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 30, 2012

Tour on 23rd of September, great weather. Embarkment at 12:20. Safety talk about vessel and other information by skipper Shaun. On the way to Bute Inlet biologist Mark gave information on the grizzly bears and what when to do. In short, follow instructions by Mark when on land. He knows the behaviour of the bears. During the boattrip we encountered two groups of pacific white-sided dolphins. A wonderful experience as a bonus. After a trip a about 2,5 hours we arrived at the land of the Homalgo first nation people. Here local guide and bearexpert Calvin waited for us with a bus to bring us to the various viewing platforms on the reserve. At the first stop we saw our first grizzly catching a fish and disappearing to eat "in private". Arriving at tower 4 and 5, we directly encountered a grizzly close by on the river bank.
In all we saw 10 grizzlies that afternoon in aperiod of about 2,5 hours, some at close range fishing for and eating salmon in the river or on the riverbank, some in a distance. In total two bear cubs.
Thanks to the 'bearknowledge' of Mark and Calvin we learned to be patient and that then the bears will act naturally and take no notice of us (or so it seemed :-) ). Quiet and in awe we returned to the boat to go back to Campbell river. We arrived in Campbell River just after dark at around 20:00. In short, it was a fantastic, excellent wildlife viewing day.

“a wonderful experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 23, 2012

We had a good day of whale hunting and learning a lot about orcas that we didn't already know. Shaun, Mark and Sherrie provided us with lots of information as well as getting us safely out to where the whales were. We got to see about 30 orca as well as a very large group of white sided dolphins playing and jumping for our entertainment.
