What a great way to start your journey into marriage! This wedding was beautiful! The weather couldn't be better, the crew from Discovery Marine Safaris did an excellent job with decorating the boat and finding the perfect spot, were the ceremony took place. i don't think they hired the eagles to fly over us .........
Thank you Discovery Marine Safari for making this moment unforgettable for all of us!

Having done a few wildlife tours over the years, from various points on Vancouver Island my friend & I feel this was the best value for money considering comfort, amount of travel time to the different destinations (yes I know it depends on where the wildlife actually is but Campbell River is kind of in the thick of it) and knowledge of the tour guide team. We took the 4hr Marine Wildlife Tour and overall if couldn't have been better. The wildlife came thick & fast with the team sharing accurate & timely information to get to the action. This balanced with a respect for the animals in question & informative Q&A regarding the animals themselves and their environment proved the perfect day out. Thank you, I will return. Claire & Alwen

We booked for an afternoon 4 hour tour with the hope of catching whatever wildlife we could.

We struck lucky :) A pod of 8 orcas traveling South from the narrows past Campbell River and down towards Mitlenatch - and they made our day!

Joel our driver was knowledgeable and welcoming. He picked us up from the dock in Quadra and after a short talk took us straight to where the orcas were - all the boats from all the companies discuss sightings over the radio. We then spent an hour cruising with the whales before he dragged us away to Mitlenatch for some sea lion and seal spotting - with a promise we'd try to pick up the black an whites again later.

Mitlenatch was ok, but the trip to get there was a little dull - open sea so no shoreline to watch for bears, eagles, etc. We had coffee and sandwiches at the island, but really sandwiches aren't needed or wanted at 4:30pm in a 4 hour trip - just a coffee and cookie alone would be better in my opinion - and it would be nice to cut a few dollars off the price.

After the break we were all very very keen to get back to the orcas so we headed back towards Quadra - found then just off of the Cape Mudge lighthouse and they put on a really good show for us with some tail slaps and some spy hops quite close to the boat.

As the clock ticked towards 4 hours we sadly had to leave the show and we were dropped back to Quadra after 3:55 on the water.

Based on our trip, I'm happy to recommend discovery marine tours. The captain Joel was friendly, informative and played eco-friendly with all the animals. The boat was safe, fast and comfortable too - the other zodiac operators are definitely faster, but that makes them a little less warm and comfortable - it's your call :)

If you do go with discovery, then don't expect orcas - they're only sometimes seen on the 4 hour tours (seen a little more often on the 6 hour). If it helps, there's a useful whiteboard outside the office by Campbell river ferry where recent trip sightings get reported.

A big factor in our successful trip was the good luck of viewing many different whales and dolfins in the wild, Add to this the fantastic display of the interaction between the transient orchas and the dolfins, This was truly a crowning event. However, the very infomative and interesting dialog given by Shawn and Mark educated us as to the nature and importance of these animals. As a total package, our day could not have been better. Thank you Mark and Shawn for this gold metal experience. Bob and Linda

I have nothing but great things to say about my first whale watching experience in BC and that is thanks to the staff of Discovery Marine Safaris and the crew of our boat the Tenacious 3! From the time we arrived at the dock (8 am) to the time we were dropped off at the end of our journey (2:30 pm) we were treated to fabulous service and expert knowledge on the ecosystem surrounding Campbell River and Vancouver Island. Our captain Sean and our naturalist Mark were fun, inviting, and certainly knowledgeable and put forth every effort to ensure every guest on board enjoyed their experience to the fullest.

We started off the morning by heading straight for a pod of resident orcas and were able to follow them for a full hour before they reached a protected area. Had it not been for Mark and Sean's knowledge of the area we most likely would have missed this small window to see the resident pod as we could have easily delayed our trip up the river to stop for some of the scenery and dolphins we saw along the way. After leaving the Orcas we returned south to find a group of dolphins we had passed by earlier in our rush to reach the whales. Not only did we find the dolphins but we soon found ourselves right in the middle of 200 of them all jumping and playing around our boat. Fantastic! We could have stayed with the dolphins for a long time but again Mark and Sean caught word of a family of transient Orcas further south so we departed to hopefully catch one more glimpse of these amazing animals. And boy did we ever get lucky! Not only did we find the whales (a family of 4) but they found us as well and we soon had all four of them passing underneath our boat and popping their heads out of the water to see what we were up to. I can't imagine anything cooler!

Finally it was getting late in the afternoon and we should have been heading back to the dock but Mark and Sean opted to follow the whales a little longer to hopefully be in sight when the whales moving to the north crossed the path of the dolphins we had passed earlier still moving to the south. Again we were not disappointed as the dolphins met the whales head on and then we watched as the dolphins realized the whales presence and quickly departed in the opposite direction leaving a giant spray of water to indicate their speedy departure. Again just amazing to watch!

All in all I can not recommend this experience enough to anyone in the area and I'm really struggling to see how I'll ever be able to go on a whale watch experience again and expect it to top the one I had today. Thanks so much to Mark, Sean, and the entire staff for the highlight of my Vancouver Island vacation!
