Garry was kind enough to take me solo as the season is not really underway yet. I had my heart set on seeing orcas, and did we see orcas. He has a network of communication that allows him to access wildlife sightings and we spent several hours, longer than planned, watching and photographing orcas in Surge Narrows. He is very knowledgeable and willing to "go the extra mile ". The boat is enclosed and this makes for a comfortable ride. Highly recommended.

What a day!! Simply cannot say enough great things about our tour. Garry, our fabulous guide, has an amazing ability to sniff out wildlife. We spent 2 amazing hours with over 100 Pacific White-sided dolphins. That was an experience we will never forget. We also saw Stellar sea lions and Harbour seals. And lots of Bald-Headed eagles. Garry has lived on the islands his entire life, so he knows the area inside and out, and his knowledge is remarkable. Having a local resident, who obviously loves the water and the wildlife, as our tour guide, only made the day that much more special. Garry was extremely accommodating, and very patient when we wanted to linger somewhere, taking pictures of animals or landscapes. My 7 and 10-year old daughters loved the entire 6-hour trip. We had a lunch provided on the boat, and the entire day was just fantastic. We will definitley be back, and I highly recommend this tour. Thank you so much!!!

We decided to book this tour in September 2012 based on the tripadvisor reviews and were not disappointed.
We started off early in the morning to see some Grizzly bears in Bute Inlet with 7 other guests. And already on the approx. 1 hour getting there we saw plenty of wildlife. Garry is a very knowledgeable and entertaining host and time passed quickly.
Upon arriving - as was another boat - we had time for a little break and went to the viewing platforms with a bus. We had a sandwich & drinks on the tour but you are not allowed to take any food out with you.
We saw some Grizzlys - even a mother with a cub - and enjoyed the sunny weather and the great landscape. The only annoying thing was the big group - some people just couldn´t keep quiet which scared the bears away.
The best part for me was the way back though. Garry heard of some Orcas not too far away and instead of going straight back to Campbell River we went to search for them.
We did not only find them but also a big pod of dolphins following the boat and jumping around. We spent plenty of time there as everyone was enjoying it so much and Garry really made my day extending our tour so much longer.
I saw and learnt a lot and would the same tour again in an instant if I would be back there.
PS: Just be aware that it is a relatively small boat so there is no toilet on board.

Hello friends. We are very happy you enjoyed your tour out with us. Our goal is to try and give you a tour that will be both memorable and enjoyable. It is a pleasure meeting people from around the world and being able to show them our little part of the natural world. Just one thing we do have an onboard washroom onboard our vessel. We had the very great pleasure of joining Gary for a Grizzly viewing tour on the 15th of September 2012. Of course, we did not know what to expect.
Well, we certainly were not disappointed. It was a beautiful early fall morning when we set out from Campbell River and Gary is a consummate, pro tour guide. We had a great experience going through the whirlpools in the narrows up Johnstone Straight and around the story of the tragic explosion of Ripple Rock in the Seymour Narrows.
Gary stays in contact with other operators and friends throughout the day, and one of those guided us to a great encounter with a school of about 2-300 Pacific White Sided Dolphins. Already the tour had jumped outside the square.
The cruise up through the Islands and into Bute inlet is an epic experience.
At the Orford River bear viewing area we were lucky to see a female and her Cub catching salmon and feeding, a large male bear and a solitary juvenile female chasing salmon. The photos alone were worth the cost of the entire trip.
On the return to Campbell River we made another diversion to encounter a pod of transient Orca, just amazing, Gary went out of his way to ensure that our day was incredibly fulfilling.
The two local lads at Orford River, who's names now escape me I am ashamed to say, were wonderful, friendly and welcoming to us all on the day. Indeed it was just great fun.

Gary has close family ties with the traditional owners of the lands and If you are in Campbell River and want a more intimate small group tour by someone who truly knows how to deliver a memorable experience then you can not go past Aboriginal Journeys.
As a photographer I have already slotted in my return for later in the fall in 2013 to get the colours of the turning trees.
I can't wait.
Do yourself a favour and go to Aboriginal Journey's first if you want
