“One of the best wildlife trips ever!”

Outstanding opportunity to see Grizzly's feeding on salmon together with wild(sea)live viewings, with an expert captain Gary who likes to show extra wildlife such as a pod of playing dolphins, and thereby increasing the lenght of the trip without problem. Superb! One of the best wildlifetrips ever.

“The Captain makes sure you have animal sightings to make this the trip of a lifetime!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

This family owned business cares about giving you a marvelous journey. Captain Gary's experience and respect of these waterways gave us a safe trip filled with wildlife sightings. He knows where to look and the clues that determine probable sightings on land and the ocean. He maneuvered the boat again and again not only to see the wildlife, but to photograph them with the best lighting. The trip to see the Grizzlies was filled with plenty of marine life too. If the animals are out there, he will find them. This was an experience of a lifetime.

“Trip in July 2012”

Our trip with Aborignal Journeys was a wonderful trip. Gary was a great guide, with lots of local stories and hsitory to share. While at the time we were there the orcas were scarce, Gary found all sorts of wildlife to see, including a beautiful large cinnamon colored black bear, white sided dolphin, seals, deer and a spectacular viewing of about 100 bald eagles feeding on fish driven to the surface by tidal rapids whirlpools..amazing. We highly recommend booking with Aboriginal Journeys.

“Best wildlife viewing day ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 10, 2012

I went on ALL the grizzly viewing tours available from Campbell River and by far and away this one was the best.
Gary - The boat driver/captain/tourguide/ was extremely knowledgeable and helpful, no question stumped him, and he went out of his way to make sure his customers had the best possible wildlife viewing experience, and in co-operation with the local aboriginal guides they ran a marvellous spotting and reporting system to locate the bears as quickly and as efficiently as possible.
Wonderful viewing platforms that put you above the bears and out of contact with them so as to avoid any possible conflict with them, whilst affording the best possible viewing.
Tour gives a full three hours with the bears witha wonderful two hour + boat trip at either end with all sorts of opportunities for spotting marine wildlife amongst the many islands and inlets,I saw:- Humpback whales - Orca - Stellar Sea Lions - Harbour seals - Pacific white sided dolphins - Dahl's porpoises - Bald eagles - many different types of seabirds and always gary tried to position the boat to afford the best possible viewing for his "Guests" (Not just paying tourists ready to be fleeced).
He also keeps the tour groups limited to 12 which makes for comfortable uncrowded viewing both on the grizzly viewing platforms and on the boat, unlike some of the other companies who take as many as 30 at a time and cram them into the same area which makes for very crowded conditions and everybody bumping and jostling each other and getting in each others way - not the best conditions for photography.
Also whilst on shore Gary concentrates on finding and showing you the bears and does not spend valuable viewing time rambling on about inconsequential subjects like ecology, being eco-friendly, or dragging you away from the bears to see things of no relative importance like abandoned beaver lodges.
Gary never seems to forget that his customers paid good money to see first and foremost "Bears".
All in all probably one of the best guided tours I've ever had in my life and worth every penny, I was so satisfied that I went out on the tour again a couple of days later with exactly the same results. (I came to see bears and bears I saw to the maximum extent possible).
I didn't do any repeat trips with any of the other available tours.
Just for general information, anybody that is thinking of going to "Knights Inlet" to see Grizzly bears, don't bother, it is a waste of good money for a very mediocre experience, You have the cost of the gas, an extra night in a motel and the cost of the tour itself, and you don't really get near the bears, you are on a tidal section of river in a delta and the bears (if any) are up on the river banks amongst sedges, you do not get a good view of the bears, just the tops of their backs and heads. this trip is very much overated to say tyheleast. For the same amount of time and money you can go out with Gary of Aboriginal Journeys TWICE and see far far more.

“Trip in July 2012”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 9, 2012

This is review for a trip we took in the 2nd week of July 2012. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. Our host Gary was a very knowledgeable Campbell River native with many interesting stories and life experiences to share. We saw a lot of wildlife including many bald eagles, auklets and seals and were lucky to be able to see a pod of 6-7 Orcas and spend about an hour with them . We also saw a large pod of dolphin that entertained us by swimming right next to our boat for another hour or so. Throughout the trip Gary was constantly talking to other operators to help locate the wildlife. We also tried to look for bears at the end of the trip, but since we were quite early in the season we were not too lucky. I would strongly recommend this trip to others. One day I hope to come back in the right season to see the Grizzlies fish Salmon.
