Zuckerberg Island has an excellent view of the confluence of the Columbia and Kootenay Rivers. That alone is worth the short walk over a cool suspension bridge to go see. You can see the "Chapel House" which is a museum about the island and the surrounding area. There is also a pit house from the Sinixt first nation group. The circle loop is a great little walk that brings you around the island.

I often take a detour to find a place of quiet to reflect on my day and what is going on in the worlds around me. (local, regional, international and internal) Sometimes there are other visitors to observe and/or interact with and sometimes it is just me and the squirrels. It is also a place to think about 'once upon a time' in Castlegar by visiting the museum.

Exposition is rather small but well worth of the visit.
Volunteer working there (proud member of Dukhobor community)
was very knowledgable and enthusiastic.
Location of the island at the meeting place of Columbia and Kootenay River has a lot of historical value as well.

We walk the dog regularly around the island throughout the year. There are benches to sit and watch the river go by and of course Zuckerberg's onion dome house to see. Love the wooden carving of Zuckerberg's wife. Great place to go, always beautiful and serene.

We thoroughly enjoyed a couple of hours exploring this beautiful island! A nice walk over a suspension bridge brings you to a nice walking trail and and the historical home of Alexander Zuckerberg. Gorgeous views!
