“Comfortable One Stop Shop”
Reviewed January 30, 2011

My husband and I stayed overnight at the Old House for one night this month and once I arrived (after snowboarding at nearby Mount Washington), there was no where else I needed to go. I unpacked my belongings and went straight to the spa (which I'd pre-booked) where I relaxed with two treatments and some tea. The 20% off for hotel guests was a pleasant surprise before I headed to the restaurant for a special coffee by the fire. My husband met me a short time later and we had dinner in the restaurant, then a movie in the room (which came with popcorn). It was a wonderful night and what really made it, was the wonderful service by the staff throughout: reservations, the front desk, spa, restaurant. Even though I don't live far from it, I would stay at the Old House again when I need a relaxing getaway.

The hotel its' self was nice, the staff were great. We had dinner at the Old House Restaurant which was amazing, the staff are friendly and the food truley delicious. The next day we had massages at the Oh spa again the staff were very accomadating and the services were to die for. Thank god we had massages booked though because after sleeping in the rock hard bed we both had not slept and were sore and stiff. The room that we had was looking over the back of pizza hut and a dumpster bin, none of the windows were opening and the room fast became dry and stuffy. By 8am we could not wait to get out of that room and never look back. If I was to recommend this place to another person I would have to recommend to request a room on the other side of the hotel were the rooms look like they have balconies and a decent view and maby a window or door that could be opened . For the overall experience it was a beautiful place for being in the middle of town, but not worth the sore dry nose and throught and stiff backs.

My wife and I, and 4 other couple stayed at The Old House Village for two nights on New Year’s Eve. We all went skiing for the day with our kids and had a fantastic day on the mountain. When we returned from skiing, the hotel was perfect, warm cozy rooms with all of the comforts of home, along with great kitchen facilities. We stayed in the one bedroom suites, everyone remarked on the cleanliness of the rooms and the beds are fantastic! The outdoor hot tub and swimming pool is amazing along with the spa. We would recommend this hotel to anyone...and we will definitely be back!

We just spent the most fabulous 2 night stay at The Old House Suites and Spa FABULOUS is the only word to describe how well appointed the one bedroom suites are in Phase 1.It is so quiet and tastefully decorated with all the creature comforts any one could ask for.Our waterview corner top floor unit overlooked the Riverwalkway and the garden.Beautiful in winter !We would highly reccommend specifically requesting the one bedroom suites inPhase 1.Amazing full kitchen exquisit dining area andin suite washer dryer to dry our ski apparel after a long day up at Mt. Washington. We dined in our luxury suite with fresh local dungeness crab and BC Spot prawns and wine.Wow we felt as if we were transported to another continent of Alpine bliss. The Old House restaurant for breakfast was delicious and staff attentive and polite. We will definately be back soon. The indoor jacuzzi and infared sauna were clean and soothing apres ski, and just downstairs.Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Made an impromptu trip to catch the powder at Mt. Washington during the Xmas 2010 holiday week. Old House Village was convenient to Mt. Washington (about 30-45 minutes with holiday traffic) and near the many stores and restaurants of Courtenay. We stayed 3 nights and enjoyed the hotel's pleasant desk service, outdoor hot tub, and nicely-appointed modern rooms. Representative of so many small details done well, the in-room refrigerator was extremely quiet. The adjacent Old House restaurant is charming with excellent breakfast offerings. Courtenay has few non-chain restaurants so for another fine dining option, head 10 minutes south on the Island Highway to the Kingfisher in Royston. Minor issues: Fitness Center is in a windowless basement room, but really you should take advantage of the riverfront path that runs in front of the hotel. Hotel common areas are kept very warm. Our room was always overheated in spite of the fact that we turned off the heat for our entire visit. The windows didn't open . One night we were driven to cool our super-heated room by running the air-conditioning (in winter!) Surprisingly, the hotel did not offer an earth-friendly towel program. Used towels were replaced everyday.

I have been travelling to Courtenay every month on business over the past few years. I always look forward to checking in at The Old House. The location is perfect, a five minute walk to the restaurants and shopping in town, yet the hotel overlooks the river, bird sanctuary, the harbour and Cape Lazo. Ask for a one bedroom suite. They have a complete kitchen with full size fridge and stove, dining room/living room, private patio, fireplace, separate bedroom and two flatscreen TVs. The hotel also has a spa and a riverside gourmet restaurant. You won't be disappointed.

What a great combination of Spa and Skiing! The accomodations in themselves are gorgeous! Fireplace, full kitchen and dining area, huge king bed, and the most comfortable pull out couch I have ever slept in! The Spa facilities were great! And the people that work there were very professional and very good! There are even 2 hot tubs, 1 pool and an infrared sauna here. You can walk to where ever you want to go. Starbucks and Safeway are just across the street.
