Visiting Courtenay? Make sure one of your first stops is Hot Chocolates. They have the BEST locally made chocolates (including a large assortment that are sugar free). They also have an adjoining bakery and seating so you can enjoy a coffee or a dish of icecream. Stop by, you'll be glad you did.

“Not your average bakery and chocolate shop...”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

I think it is beginning to be a habit. When I am on Vancouver Island, my car just seems to steer itself to Hot Chocolates :) This spot is a great stop for a latte and a sweet treat - either gelato, chocolate or bakery items such as the Lemon Meringue Cake. As a few have mentioned on here, it is not cheap, However, I am a firm believer that you get what you pay for - everything here is fresh and made with the best ingredients - you can taste it in anything you might purchase. We are fans of the gelato too - but this time just enjoyed the cake and then a quick visit to the fun retro stores close by.

“Sweet”
Reviewed January 26, 2014

Courtenay is a happenin' place compared to other small towns on Vancouver Island; cute little shops albeit pricey and then this great bakery/yummy chocolate/coffee stop. Service is somewhat slow because of volume of clients, product excellent if a bit pricey. Room to sit and chat and gain a few pounds and inhale the great chocolate and bakery scent.

“Snacks and Treats”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

If chocolate appeals to you, created on site delicacies will tempt you. Seasonal and "regular" fare is fresh and very, very appealing. You will never go wrong choosing from their pre-packaged assortments or creating a mix of your favourite chocolates. A raspberry truffle had an ever-so fresh fruit filling, it was like you had bitten into a freshly picked berry. The seasonal Halloween chocolates included rats (about 10-12 cm long) in dark or milk chocolate. My faves included the ginger bark and hot pepper chilli chocolate.
